MONROE — Seniors Brody Goode, Brody Koehn, Hans Brandt, Brady Stuart, and Owen Hicks did their part in leading the Monroe Cheesemakers to a 3-1 win over the South Central Navigators (DeForest co-op) in Badger Conference boys hockey on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Koehn got a first period goal with the help of an assist by Goode at 12:37 to get the Cheesemakers off to a 1-0 lead. The Navigators tied it up at 1-1 with a goal at 16:11 in the first period.
There was no scoring in the second period, but the Cheesemakers did successfully kill a penalty on Brady Stuart for cross-checking that left Monroe short-handed for two minutes at the 9:09 mark.
The Cheesemakers took the lead for good ten seconds into the third period on Koehn’s second goal, assisted by Goode and by Brandt for a 2-1 lead. Stuart added an insurance goal on a power play with assists by Koehn and Goode at 13:25 to give the Cheesemakers a 3-1 lead that stood up the rest of the way.
Senior Brock Brandli made 31 saves while the Cheese put 36 shots on goal. Monroe went 1-1 on the power play and held South Central without a score on three power play opportunities.
The Cheesemakers (9-14, 5-8) close the regular season with a nonconference game on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Whitefish Bay. Monroe is a No. 12 seed and travels to Waukesha North in a Division 1 Regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Beaver Dam 3, Janesville 2
BEAVER DAM — Micki Andrews of Monroe got an assist on the first goal of the game scored by the Janesville Bluebirds, but the Beaver Dam Golden Beavers came back to win 3-2 over Janesville in Badger Conference girls hockey on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Andrews got the assist when Ava Kligora scored at 8:42 in the first period which gave the Bluebirds a 1-0 lead. The Golden Beavers tied the game just before the first period ended at 1-1 on a goal at 16:26.
The second period was marred by eight penalties with five of them whistled against the Bluebirds. Janesville managed to kill all but one penalty, but the Golden Beavers were able to tie the game on a power play goal less than two minutes after the Bluebirds had taken a 2-1 lead.
The Bluebirds committed a penalty in the third period and the Golden Beavers capitalized on it with a power play goal at 7:05. Janesville was unable to get a game-tying goal the rest of the game.
Micki Andrews got a point for her assist in the first period and Hailey Rasmussen of Monroe played but did not record a goal or an assist.
The Bluebirds got 15 shots on goal and Jessie Demarasse made 38 saves. Janesville was 1-3 on the power play.
The Bluebirds (9-11-2, 7-5) hosted Brookfield on Thursday, Feb. 12 in nonconference action. Janesville is a No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed Baraboo on Thursday, Feb. 19 or Friday, Feb. 20 in a WIAA regional quarterfinal.

JANESVILLE — Freshman Hailey Rasmussen and freshman Micki Andrews of Monroe combined to score a goal for the Janesville Bluebirds in a 7-1 pounding of the Viroqua Blackhawks in Badger Conference girls hockey on Thursday, Feb. 5.
The Bluebirds scored three goals in the first period and three more goals in the second period. With the Bluebirds out in front 6-1 in the third period, Rasmussen took a pass from Andrews and scored the first goal of her career at 8:35 of the first period. The assist by Andrews was her sixth of the season go along with four goals, giving her 10 points on the season.
The Bluebirds have gone unbeaten in their last seven games and have moved into third place in the Badger Conference.
