STOUGHTON — The Cheesemakers finished seventh of the eight Badger South Teams at the Stoughton mini-meet April 16. Monroe’s score of 408 beat only Fort Atkinson (423). Edgewood (325) won the meet, with Monona Grove (340) taking second.

Conner Allen paced the Cheesemakers with a 90 on the Par 71 course. Bryce Winters carded a 94, while Stewart Sathoff pulled in a 111 and Dillon Lincicum had a 113.

Allen shot par on Holes 1, 2, 8 and 9 on the Front 9, but only the 15th and 16th on the Back 9. A 10 on the Par 5 12th cost Allen a shot at a top-10 finish.

Lincicum had a par on the third and fifth holes, while Winters parred the eighth. On the back nine, Winters parred the 13th, 15th and 16th holes, while Lincicum was par on the 16th. The Cheesemakers went without a birdie on the day.

Oregon’s Sam Schroeder was the medalist with a 75, beating Edgewood’s Karl Gilmore by two strokes.

Capitol Mini-Meet, April 15

LAKE MILLS — Columbus’ Austin Leitha was the medalist at the third Capitol mini meet, shooing a 41 on the Par 37 course. Cambridge edged Columbus by a stroke for the team title (179-180). New Glarus was third at 188, and Belleville-Monticello was seventh at 214.

For New Glarus, senior captain Jared Martinson had the big day, carding a 44 to lead the Knights.

“He’s been working really hard, especially on his short game,” New Glarus coach Jonathon Goodness said. “I’m proud to see it paying off.”

Martinson’s shot of the day came on the Par 4 third hole when he sank a 30-foot chip.

“He lined it up, hit it, rolled and stuck the pin,” Goodness said. “Jared played really well.”

Matt Hach carded a 47 for New Glarus, with Ty Ready finishing at 47 and Jacob Krantz at 52.

“I was impressed with all of our guys,” Goodness said. “There are a lot of trees and tight fairways. If you get above the hole you’re in trouble.”

Peter Gustafson and Jakson Trainor each had scores of 46 for Belleville-Monticello, with Logan Niesen and Dylan Posthuma carding 61 each.

Columbus leads the conference in mini-meet points with four, while Cambridge is at six and New Glarus stands in third place with 10.
