LODI — The Monroe-New Glarus swim team took first place at the seven-team Lodi Invitational Sept. 11.
“It was a very exciting meet,” MNG co-coach Rachel Root said. “The girls have been doing a great job working hard at practice and they keep getting stronger at racing and supporting one another.”
The Cheesemakers scored 386 points, finishing ahead of Merrill (340.5). River Valley/Richland Center (28() edged Edgerton/Evansville (276.5) for third, with host Lodi (244) outscoring Jefferson/Cambridge (232). Portage (66) was seventh.
Champions for MNG included Riley Hoesly in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.85) and 500-free (5:50.08); Mazie Paradis in the 200-IM (2:14.50) and 100-backstroke (59:01). The Cheesemakers’ quartet of Hoesly, Paradis, Morgan Erstad and Delaney Lynch won the 400-free relay (3:55.18) by more than 10 seconds.
Second place MNG finishers included Erstad in the IM (2:21.44) and Lynch in the 100-butterfly (1:07.25). The 200-yard medley relay tandem of Erstad, Lynch, Paradis and Karley Michels finished second (1:57.31), just 0.3 seconds behind Jefferson-Cambridge.
Michels was fourth in the 100-breaststroke (1:15.32), six seconds off the pace of champion Zoey Rank of J/C. Erstad was fourth in the 100-backstroke (1:03.41) and Keeley Mulligan was fourth in the 500-free (6:09.50).
