Milton tops MHS 14-4; Pec beats M/A, NG

MILTON — The Cheesemakers gave up a 5-run fifth inning on the road and suffered a mercy-rule 14-4 loss to the Red Hawks May 14 in a Badger South game.

Monroe took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Milton matched the score in the bottom half of the inning. Monroe added a fourth run in the second, but again, Milton tied it in the next frame. The Cheesemakers put just two runners on base over the next three innings, while the Red Hawks scored 3, 2 and 5 runs in the third through fifth innings to win.

On the mound, George Brukwicki allowed 10 runs (9 earned) on 11 hits and two hit batters in 4.1 innings of work. Max Golembiewski took over in the fifth inning, walked two with a hit before allowing the game-clinching run to cross the plate.

At the dish, Henry Brukwicki was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Trevor Schmitt was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Alec Campbell was a home run shy of the cycle for Milton, driving in four runs. Jack Campion scored the win on the hill, allowing five hits and three walks with six strikeouts.


Pecatonica 26, Monticello-Albany 0

ALBANY — Elijah Knutson and Devon Doran combined to toss a two-hit shutout on the mound for the Vikings in a win over the Ponies May 14.

Pecatonica scored five runs in the first inning, one in the second and five more in the third. A 14-run explosion in the fourth blew the game open. The Vikings added one more run for good measure in the fifth.

Pecatonica hitters finished the game with 19 hits, 12 walks, a hit batter and 14 steals. Eight of the 19 hits were doubles, with Hunter Enloe and Carson Kurschner each with two two-baggers. Coy Ruegsegger and Enloe each finished 4-for-4. Ruegsegger scored four runs, doubled, walked and drove in five. Enloe had three runs, two RBIs and walked twice. Kurschner was 2-for-3 off the bench with two runs, a walk and six RBIs. Dakota Doescher added three hits, while Bryce Johnsrud and Knutson both tallied two hits. 

Carson Gafner and Jacob Letcher had Monticello-Albany’s only hits. Gafner took the loss on the hill, allowing seven runs (five earned) in two innings of work. Andy Gertsch, Tyler Anderson, Luke Johnson and Brayden Bakken combined to toss 149 pitches through the final three innings of work, allowing 14 earned runs.


Pecatonica 7, New Glarus 6

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings rallied from a 5-2 deficit with six outs to go to win a nonconference game against the Glarner Knights May 13.

Pecatonica scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie it at 5-5, but New Glarus made it 6-5 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Carter Siegenthaler. 

In the bottom half of the frame, Bryce Johnsrud singled with one out, then Coy Ruegsegger reached on an error. Elijah Knutson then doubled home Johnsrud to tie the game and move Ruegsegger to third. Jameson Johnson then worked a 7-pitch at-bat, ending the game with a walk-off single to right on a full count single.

Johnsrud had three hits for Pecatonica, while Kegun Brunker and Jameson Johnson each had two hits. Johnson and Knutson each doubled.

Cooper Dreyfus and Leyton Mihlbauer both had two hits for New Glarus, with Mihlbauer doubling and Dreyfus smashing a solo home run in the first inning.

Hunter Enloe pitched the first three innings for Pecatonica, striking out six and giving up two hits and two walks while hitting a batter. He allowed two runs to score. Coy Ruegsegger tossed the next three innings for Pecatonica, striking out four but allowing four runs to score. Elijah Knutson got the win, getting out of a jam in the top of the seventh inning.

Eli Zimmerman started for New Glarus and struck out 10 in 5.1 innings, but allowed six hits, three walks and four runs. Mihlbauer, Nathan Streiff and Siegenthaler all pitched 1/3 of an inning, with Siegenthaler taking the loss.


New Glarus 5, Belleville 3

NEW GLARUS — The Knights got a solid game on the mound from Carter Siegenthaler en route to a Capitol South victory over rival Belleville May 14.

Siegenthaler went the distance, striking out seven with six hits and a walk. Two of the three runs against him were earned.

Kylo Barker had the only double of the game for New Glarus, while Darris Schuett was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Trevor Syse was 2-for-3 for Belleville, and teammate Gavin Boyum doubled.

Belleville scored in the top of the first, but New Glarus scratched two across the board in the bottom of the third to take a brief lead. The Wildcats tied in it in the next half inning, but New Glarus scored twice more in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 4-2. Belleville added another run in the top of the sixth, but the Knights scratched across an insurance run in the bottom half to seal the win.


Edgerton 6, Brodhead-Juda 1

Brodhead-Juda 5, Whitewater 1

EDGERTON — The Cardinals split a pair of road games, losing to Edgerton May 13, then beating Whitewater the following day.

The Crimson Tide held Brodhead-Juda to just three hits and 12 strikeouts. Kohen Sawle took the loss on the hill for the Cardinals, with Mason Kammerer and Evan Senobe relieving. Carson Dupuis got the win for Edgerton. Cade Walker doubled for the Cardinals, with Conner Green scoring the team’s only run in the top of the first. 

In the win over Whitewater, Green and Malkow each had two hits, while Walker finished with three. Green doubled while Aidan Vondra tripled. Malkow got the win on the mound, tossing five innings, allowing just one hit, four walks and an unearned run while striking out 10. Kammerer struck out two in a pair of perfect innings in relief. 


Potosi-Cassville 14, Argyle 12

Barneveld 15, Argyle 4

ARGYLE — The Orioles let an 11-8 lead slip away in the seventh inning of a loss to Potosi-Cassville May 13, then fell behind Barneveld 15-0 the following day.

In the loss to P/C, Clay Ritschard labored through four innings and allowed seven runs on the mound on five hits, six walks and three hit batters. Brady Penniston pitched the final three innings, allowing seven runs (four earned).

At the dish, Penniston had three hits, including a triple. Ritschard and Jayden Johnson each had two hits and a double, while Caden Stroeger added a two-bagger himself.

The Orioles led 10-4 through four innings, but Owen Vogelsberg hit an inside-the-park grand slam to bring the Chieftains to within two. Argyle scored an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn’t enough.

The next night against Barneveld, the Eagles score line went 3-4-3-3-2. Argyle was zeroes across the board until scoring four in the bottom of the fifth when it was too late.

Argyle had just three hits and two walks in the game just one of their four runs were earned. 

Chase Ignatius was 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBIs and three doubles for Barneveld. Slade Ward had two hits and seven RBIs.

Max Godfrey was tagged for 10 runs (five earned) on four hits, eight walks and two hit batters in 2.1 innings of work. Johnson tossed the final 2.2 innings for Argyle, giving up five runs (two earned) on five walks, three hits and a hit batter. The Orioles committed six errors.


Riverdale 14, Darlington 9

MUSCODA — A 7-run fourth inning put the Redbirds behind 12-1 in a road loss May 14.

While Darlington was able to rally, outscoring their opponent 8-3 in the fifth and sixth innings, the deficit was too much to overcome. 

Seven different Redbirds recorded a hit, with Breylin Goebel scorching a triple. Hunter Hardyman had three walks and two runs, while Gage Banfield finished with two walks, a hit and three RBIs.

Banfield took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 runs (six earned) in 3.1 innings. Cayden Rankin didn’t record an out in 14 pitches, walking three batters in the fourth inning, and Cayden Burbach came on to close out the final 2.2 innings for Darlington.
