MILTON — Monroe-New Glarus lost a tough Badger South dual to Milton 100-70 Sept. 3.
“We fought hard and had a good showing after a long weekend of no practice, as well as the beginning of the school year,” said coach Kendra Kalvin. “Overall the team came back in the second half of the meet physically, but more importantly, emotionally.”
The Cheesemakers saw first place finishes in just two events: Francesca Schiro won the 50-yard freestyle (26.12 seconds) and Morgan Erstad was the top finisher in the 500-free (5:30.93).
“We saw Francesca Schiro show off her abilities in the 50- and 100-free,” Kalvin said. “Morgan Erstad had a great swim in the 500-free, looking strong throughout.”
Monroe-New Glarus is swimming several girls in different races this fall more than usual in hopes of building their overall depth and challenging the swimmers.
Schiro was second in the 100-free (56.55), just 7/100ths behind Milton’s Caroline Burki. Kaitlyn Elgin was second in the 200-free (2:15.74). Mekenzie Hammer was second in the 200-individual medley (2:17.93) and the 100-butterfly (1:02.53). Erstad was second in the 100-backstroke (1:05.88), with Karley Michels second in the 100-breaststroke (1:14.03).
Monroe-New Glarus was second in the 400-freestyle relay (3:56.53), third in the 200-free relay (1:55.40) and second in the 200-medley relay (1:58.31).
