OREGON — Monroe won both the boys and girls meets at the Badger South Triangular April 16. The boys team finished with a score of 74, ahead of Edgewood (59) and Oregon (57). The girls (68.5) edged Oregon (66) with Edgewood (55.5) coming in third.
“Many solid performances and getting a victory against last year’s conference champs in Oregon and versus Edgewood, who always has top athletes,” Monroe girls coach Eric Jubeck said.
Cammi Ganshert won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.78 seconds. She also set a personal best time in the 400 (1:01.14) winning the race by 3/100ths of a second. Cassie Gersbach won the 300-hurdles (49.88) by 2/100ths of a second.
In the shot put, Chloe Bunker (34 feet, 2.5 inches) won by an inch and a half over teammate Riley Hartwig (34-01). Bunker also won the discus (101-11). Abby Price (8-00) won the pole vault and Gersbach was the winner in the triple jump (32-06).
“Cammi winning the 400 against a top middle-distance runner in the state was a great confidence booster. Cassi breaking 50 seconds in the 300 hurdles and holding off Edgewood’s hurdler was a statement. Chloe winning both throwing events and being consistently good is expected but fulfilling,” Jubeck said. “Seeing out vaulters go 1-2 and continue to improve was a real positive. Most importantly, competing from the first to the last event as a team and having everyone do their part to win shows what a true team we have.”
On the boys side, Nick Bansley won the 100 (11.29), while Jordan Montgomery won the 400 (53.98). Monroe swept the top three spots in the 800, with Kyle Leger (2:08.08) taking first, Jake Brower (2:08.90) second and Dylan Fahrney (2:09.08) third.
Trevor Rodebaugh won the 110-high hurdles (15.56), and freshman Jason Carpenter won the 300-hurdles (45.73). Cade Meyer won the high jump (6-4), beating out teammates JT Seagreaves (6-0) and Lukas Broitzman (5-6), who finished second and third. Patrick Rielly (10-06) won the pole vault.
“A lot of key performances on the boys side. Nick Bansley won the 100 in a very fast time and establishing himself as one of the fastest in the conference. Jordan Montgomery showed his range by winning the 400,” Monroe boys coach Scott Mosher said. “Our distance crew went 1-2-3 in the 800 and Cade Meyer, JT Seagreaves, and Lukas Broitzman went 1-2-3 in the high jump. Trevor Rodebaugh and Jason Carpenter went 1-2 in the 110 hurdles, both running top-5 class records (sophomore and freshman respectively). It’s very exciting watching the kids compete hard and work to improve each meet.”
