MIDDLETON — The Cheesemakers took part in the 11-team Middleton Relays April 26. The Monroe boys were eighth overall, while the girls were fifth.

“Taking fifth out of 11 teams in a meet of this caliber is a great accomplishment,” Monroe girls coach Eric Jubeck said. “We had several solid performances, but the two worthy of highlighting are the shot put relay and the 4-by-1 (400-meter relay).”

Monroe’s shot-put team of Chloe Bunker (37-feet, 2.5-inches), Riley Hartwig (35-0.5) and Emily Meritt (30-01) combined for a total of 102-feet, four inches, which beat the previous school mark by 1.25 inches.

“It was particularly dramatic because Emily Meritt, who is a first-year senior on the team, reached the 30-foot plateau on her last throw to set the school record,” Jubeck said. Madison Memorial (105-08) won the shot put relay. Bunker was second individually, while Hartwig was fourth and Merritt 10th.

The Cheesemakers’ girls 400-meter relay team Emma Sanders, Faith Koester, Sabina Gonzalez and Cammi Ganshert took sixth with a time of 52.33 seconds. The mark is currently the eighth-fastest time in Division 2 this season.

Cassi Gersbach was second in the 300-hurdles (50.31).

The Monroe 400-relay field event finals team of Abby Price, Megan Benzschawel, Grace Mathiason and Gersbach was second (53.59).

On the boys side, Trevor Rodebaugh won the 110-high hurdles (15.69) and was fourth the 300-hurdles (43.56).

Monroe’s 400-relay weights team of Caleb Bunker, Julian Gruber, Aaron Ziolkowski and Jordan Montgomery won with a time of 47.90.
