MONROE — The Cheesemakers lost to Stoughton in a two-team Badger South boys golf dual May 4. The match was held on the front nine, a Par 34, at Monroe Golf Club. Stoughton finished with a 172 to Monroe’s 212.

Bert Leach carded a 43 to lead Monroe. He parred the second- and sixth-hole Par 3s. He bogeyed the Par 5 third, Par 4 fourth, fifth and seventh. He double-bogeyed the first, eighth and ninth holes.

Carson Leuzinger had a 51, parring the second hole. Seth Brandt also parred the second hole and finished with a 53. Cole Meier carded a 65 and Logan Spear shot a 75.

Stoughton was led by Colin Quam and Luke Fernholz, both of whom finished with a 42. Conner Brown had a 44, Josh Livingston a 45 and Eagen Olson a 47.

On May 5, the Cheesemakers traveled to Yahara Hills Golf Course in Madison to face Edgewood in a dual. The Crusaders won 163-215.

Ethan Arndt led all scorers with a 38, while Al Deang shot a 40, Alex Weiss a 41 and Michael Yesbeck and Charlie Jaye a 44 for Edgewood.

Leach led Monroe with a 47. Leuzinger carded a 51, Brandt a 55 and Spear and Meier each had 62s.

“We’re just focusing on getting a little better each match,” Monroe coach Braden Rindy said. “We do not have many practices with this shortened schedule, so we are having to learn while we play. Not ideal, but it is what it is.”

Monroe has a young roster, with zero returning varsity players from the 2019 season.

“It’s every player’s first year playing high school golf,” Rindy said. “This means we are finding our roles in the team. This is the definition of a rebuilding year. Not one senior on the team also, so we are young and ready to learn and get better.”

Up next for the Cheesemakers was a May 7 invite at Krueger-Haskell Golf Course in Beloit, then a May 12 home dual against Monona Grove.
