FORT ATKINSON — Monroe’s boys team finished fourth at the Badger South Conference meet Oct. 19. Stoughton won the meet with 50 points, while Monona Grove was second at 57, followed by Watertown (96), Monroe (112), Edgewood (120), Oregon (140), Milton (156) and Fort Atkinson (205).
Dylan Fahrney was the first Cheesemaker to cross the finish line, as the team stuck to its plan of pack-running. Fahrney was 17th overall with a time of 17 minutes, 40.3 seconds. Lucas Sathoff was one place behind Fahrney (17:43.2), while Heath Huschitt (23rd, 17:51.5), Zander Slack (25th, 17:56.3) and Zander Coulthard (29th, 18:07.0) also scored for Monroe. Jake Brower (34th, 18:15.3) and Trevor Boll (36th, 18:22.8) didn’t score, but competed for the Cheesemakers, who were without junior Alex Henry.
Edgewood’s Leo Richardson was the league champion (16:05.0), and teammate Jack Brolin was second (16:40.4).
Monroe’s girls team was eighth with 190 points. Monona Grove (45) fended off Oregon (66) and Stoughton (88) for the team title.
Jacie Hayes was sixth overall (19:58.1) to lead the Cheesemakers. Jazmyn Mader was 41st overall (22:25.7), while Sierra McGuire was one step behind (42nd, 22:26.0). Lauren Coppes (50th, 23:35.1) and Bre Lambert (51st, 23:38.1) also scored for Monroe.
Stoughton’s Grace Jenny was the individual champion with a time of 19:06.3.
Darlington girls win SWAL
HAZEL GREEN — The Redbirds finished with three top-10 finishers in the girls race at the SWAL conference meet Oct. 19, hosted by Southwestern.
Darlington (55 points) won a tightly contested girls race, with Boscobel (61) and Albany (63) finishing second and third.
Judith Meister was the top runner for Darlington, finishing third overall (20:29.6), while Ashlyn Norgard (20:36.7) and Morgan Black (21.34.0) were fifth and 10th, respectively. Allyson Meyers (15th, 21:56.5) and Maddie Crist (22nd, 22:46.8) also scored for the Redbirds.
Linsey Mueller (6th, 20:45.5) and McKenna Broughton (9th, 21:12.1) were top-10 finishers for Albany. Emileigh Dallman (13th, 21:51.8), Kaiya Zurfluh (16th, 21:57.0) and Payton Wacholz (19th, 22:45.2) also scored for the Comets.
Kayci Martensen of Southwestern-Cuba City-Benton won the race by more than two minutes with a time of 18:09.4.
On the boys side, Boscobel won the team title with 38 points. Iowa-Grant was second (70), followed by Darlington (86).
Darlington’s Rhett Reuter was fourth overall (17:38.2), while George West (17:51.7) was eighth. Willie Riechers (19th, 18:18.8), Cristian Guiterrez (21st, 18:37.3) and David Bautista (34th, 19:14.2) all scored for the Redbirds.
Iowa-Grant’s Nick Connolly won the race by over 35 seconds with a time of 16:45.8.
McIntyre wins RVC title
WHITEWATER — Brodhead-Juda junior Madelynn McIntyre won the Rock Valley Conference meet Oct. 17.
McIntyre finished with a time of 19:52.4, 48 seconds ahead of the next best runner. Teammate Presleigh Arnold was 10th overall (21:51.6).
The Cardinals were fifth as a team, finishing with 103 points. McFarland (54) edged Evansville (55) by the slimmest of margins. East Troy (71) was third and Jefferson (81) was fourth in team points.
Also scoring for the Cardinals were Anna Skoumal (20th, 22:29.5), Carisa Purdue (26th, 22:46.2) and Gabi Ryser (47th, 25:01.4).
On the boys side, Jefferson won the team title with 48 points, followed by Evansville (75), McFarland (78), Turner (118), Whitewater (122) and then Brodhead-Juda (134), which placed sixth in the 10-team race.
Carter Urness was the first Brodhead-Juda runner to cross the finish line, taking 14th (18:15.1). Jacob Staffon (21st, 18:42.5), Royce Brauer (22nd, 18:43.2), Josiah Engen (30th, 19:20.9) and Brady Bruns (47th, 19:59.4) all scored for the Cardinals.
