MHS back on track with win over MG

MADISON — Monroe halted a late-season skid with a 5-2 win over Monona Grove Feb. 8. The Cheesemakers were mired in a slump that saw zero wins in the five games prior to the Silver Eagles.

Hayden Roth scored twice for Monroe, while Blaze Janecke, Cooper Dreyfus and Payton Stauffacher each added goals for the Cheesemakers.

Recording assists for Monroe were Luke Kuberski, Roth and Jared Dillon, who had two.

Jayden Johnson got the win in net for the Cheesemakers, knocking away 31 shots. Monroe out-shot MG 45-33.

The final game of the regular season for Monroe is set for Feb. 11 at McFarland. 

The WIAA also released the postseason bracket Feb. 9, and the Cheesemakers were seeded 10th in their Division 1 sectional. Monroe will travel to Reedsburg for a 7 p.m. game Feb. 18. The winner takes on Madison Edgewood, the No. 2 seeded squad.
