Monticello-Albany’s Pryce Shuts Down Argyle-Black Hawk With No-Hitter
Pitcher Cody Pryce of Monticello-Albany just missed a perfect game as he no-hit the Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles 13-0 on May 5. Pryce walked one batter, Deacon Kuebli, and struck out 12 in the five-inning win. Catcher Nate Stokstad led the Space Stallions (3-12, 2-8 Six Rivers) by going 1x3 with three RBIs. Pryce was 2x3 with an RBI and a run scored. Center fielder Hunter Grossen was 2x3 and scored a pair of runs. Argyle-Black Hawk (1-14, 1-12 Six Rivers) travels to Potosi-Cassville May 9.
River Ridge Rallies To Beat Pecatonica
The River Ridge Timberwolves scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overtake the Pecatonica Vikings 6-5 in a Six Rivers game May 5 at Bloomington. The Vikings were led by first baseman Charles Anderson, who was 2x4 with an RBI and a run scored. Catcher Cooper Schraeper came up with two hits and two RBIs in two at-bats. It was the fifth one-run game the Vikings have played in this season with three of them resulting in losses.
Pecatonica’s Schlimgen Shuts Out Monticello-Albany On 1 Hit
Pecatonica starting pitcher Reid Schlimgen came within one out of a no-hitter as the Vikings shut out Monticello-Albany 4-0 in a Six Rivers game on May 6. Monticello-Albany’s Cody Pryce spoiled Schlimgen’s no-hit bid with a two-out single in the seventh inning. Schlimgen struck out six as he went the distance. The only other baserunners for the Space Stallions were Dominic Schroeder who got on with a walk in the fourth inning, and Nate Stokstad, who reached on an error in the fourth inning and was hit by a pitch in the seventh. The Vikings were led by catcher Marty Anderson, who was 2x2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. First baseman Charles Anderson was 3x4 with a double and two RBIs. The Space Stallions (3-13, 2-9 Six Rivers) were to host Shullsburg-Benton at Albany in a conference game May 9. Pecatonica (9-7, 7-5) had a nonconference game at home against Lincoln Academy on May 8.
Belleville falls to Lodi, fends off Waterloo
The Wildcats lost a May 5 road game to Lodi 10-0. The next day, the Wildcats held off Waterloo 6-4 thanks to starting pitcher Niles Monroe’s dominating performance. Lodi scored eight runs against Belleville starter Austin McKinley and two more versus Trei Udelhoven. The Wildcats had just two hits and a walk on offense. Against Waterloo, Monroe struck out 16 batters while allowing just two hits and a walk. All four runs against him were unearned and came in the sixth inning. Belleville went into the frame up 6-0. Brennan Keyes and Randy Raven each had two RBIs for the Wildcats.
Jefferson Hands Monroe First Conference Loss
The Monroe Cheesemakers took their first loss in the Rock Valley Conference this season as the Jefferson Eagles were victorious in an error-filled game May 6. The Cheesemakers committed seven errors while the Eagles committed five errors. Monroe’s only hit came from starting pitcher Zane Seffrood, who allowed just two earned runs. Ashton Hale, Cole Meighan, and Marcus Ott all walked, but the Cheese (8-4, 2-1 RVC-Valley) left six runners stranded. Monroe was scheduled to host Jefferson on May 8 and Clinton on May 9.
Mineral Point Scores Early And Often In 17-4 Win Over Darlington
The Mineral Point Pointers scored in every inning and rolled past the Darlington Redbirds 17-4 in six innings in SWAL action May 6. The Pointers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Redbirds countered with two runs. The Pointers then built up a 10-2 lead before the Redbirds could score again. Zeke Zuberbuhler came up with two hits and an RBI while Landon Edgerton collected two hits and two RBIs to lead Darlington. Maddox Goebel got a hit and scored a run for the Redbirds (4-11, 1-7 SWAL). Darlington was to host Boscobel May 9.
New Glarus Wins Over Mineral Point, 4-2
The New Glarus Glarner Knights picked up a nonconference win over the Mineral Point Pointers 4-2 on May 5. The Glarner Knights opened the scoring in the first inning after senior Patrick Alt hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. The Pointers tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second. In the bottom of the third, the Knights broke up the tie when Landon Stelter hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Then, a walk by Braden Rear followed to extend the lead to 3-1. Andrew Pulvermacher earned the win for New Glarus, surrendering eight hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out none and walking one. Rear and sophomore Nolan Julseth each collected two hits for New Glarus.
Cambridge Takes Extra-Inning Win Over New Glarus
Cambridge scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning and the New Glarus Glarner Knights didn’t have an answer in the bottom half as Cambridge took a 4-2 in a Capitol South game on May 6. Third baseman Nathan Hendrickson got three hits in three at-bats with a run scored and an RBI for the Glarner Knights. Sophomore Nolan Julseth got the only other hit for New Glarus. Catcher Ashlin Mihlbauer walked and scored a run for the Knights. Senior Patrick Alt started for the Glarner Knights and allowed four runs on five hits. New Glarus (9-5, 4-3 Capitol South) was to play a nonconference game at home against Johnson Creek on May 9.
Brodhead-Juda dumps Evansville 9-4
Three Cardinals had two hits in a key RVC-Rock win May 6: Braylon Strehlow (2x3), Sam Searls (2x3) and Max Pinnow (2x4). Strehlow and Brooks Malkow each doubled, while Searls scored two runs and Gabe Bockhop drove in two. David Masloske added a hit and two walks. Brody Riese tossed five innings for the win, allowing just one earned run. Easton Hess allowed two earned runs in two innings in relief.
