Local seniors to partake in summer all-star games

MONROE — High school seniors will be graduating in less than four weeks, but for some of the area’s best athletes, they’ll get a chance to play one more game.

Rosters for several of the state all-star games have formed already by various coaches associations. Many of the events feature athletes from Green and Lafayette county schools.

In girls basketball, the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) will hold its five division all-star games between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25 at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. 

Albany-Monticello’s Abby Hollis and Dalana Trumpy will get another shot to play. They’ll be joined on the Division 5 South team by conference rival Maddy Lange of Black Hawk. Belleville’s Maddi DeSmet will play for the Division 4 South team. On the boys side of the WBCA games, Brodhead’s Cullen Walker will suit up for the Division 3 White team on Thursday, June 26. Darlington coach Tom Uppena will be an assistant coach for the D5 White team.

The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) will hold its three annual games on July 18 and 19 at Titan Stadium, home of UW-Oshkosh. The 8-player game will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 18, the small school game will kick off at noon on July 1 and the large school tilt starts at approximately 4 p.m. on July 19.

Area players suiting up will be: Ryker Swenson and Jake Biesterveld of Belleville, Brady Stietz of Black Hawk-Warren, Ross Crist, Talan Crist and Maddox Goebel of Darlington and Andrew Sarbacker of New Glarus.
