WHITEWATER — Six Monroe athletes reached the WIAA Division 2 state meet after the Whitewater Sectional June 18. Brodhead-Juda also advanced in six events. The Division 2 state meet will be held June 25 at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium on the UW-La Crosse campus.

On the boys side, Monroe senior Caleb Bunker will throw in the shot put. Junior Lucas Sathoff advanced in the 400-meter dash. Junior Jason Carpenter will compete in the 300-meter hurdles. Monroe’s 800-meter relay team of Charlie Wiegel, Lucas Flom, JT Seagreaves and Sathoff also advance, with Jakar Broitzman and Egor Sereda traveling as alternates. The same group also qualified for the 1,600-meter relay.

Monroe junior Bre Lambert is the only state-qualifying girl to move on. She will compete in the 400-meter dash. At the sectional she finished second with a time of 1:00.65, with Wisconsin Dells junior Hailey Anchor the champion at 59.59 seconds.

“I’m very proud of and happy for Bre Lambert to make it to state,” Monroe girls coach Eric Jubeck said. “She put the work in and is very deserving of it. She’s seeded eighth, so the goal is to score a point as well as to try to make the podium.”

Monroe freshman Aleigh Zettle missed a shot to run in the 200-meter dash by less than 1/100th of a second, tying Lodi’s Lauryn Milne at 26.65 seconds for fourth place. Senior Riley Hartwig missed out on the shot put by two inches.

“It was a tough sectional for several of our other athletes — we had three athletes that missed out by one spot,” Jubeck said. “Riley in the shot put — it was wonderful to see her have a season PR at sectionals and she had such a great career. Aleigh Zettle was within a thousandth of a second in the 200. She had a remarkable freshman year and I expect this frustration to fuel her — as she has the chance to go down as a great. She has the physical skill set as well as the drive to be special.”

Jadyn Elgin was fifth in the 3,200-meter run, missing state by 5.56 seconds.

“Jadyn Elgin taking fifth in the two-mile — she had an impossible season. She made it to state in cross country in the middle of her track season. To turn around and take fifth at sectionals was a heck of an accomplishment. She was just figuring out the sport and I can’t wait to see what she is capable of next year and beyond,” Jubeck said.

Brodhead-Juda senior Maddy McIntyre advanced in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races, as she won both races as sectionals. Freshman Kalena Riemer qualified in the 800-meter run. Freshman Addison Yates qualified in both the high jump and long jump. Junior Josiah Engen is the lone boys competitor for the Cardinals at state, qualifying in the high jump for the second straight season.

Sugar River freshman Carter Scholey qualified in the boys 3,200-meter run, and the Raiders’ 3,200-meter relay team of Scholey, Conor McCoy, Matthew Loshaw, Thomas Nelson, Jordan Wilder and Kaleb Welhouse also will compete at state.

Division 3

The WIAA Division 3 state track and field championships will be held Thursday, June 24 at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium on the UW-La Crosse campus.

Darlington will have competitors in eight events.

The Redbirds’ 400-meter girls relay team of Zoie Zuberbuhler, Abby Solverson, Alyza Johnson, Gabby Leuchtenmacher, Sydney Beasley and Lilee McGowan advanced to the state meet. Zuberbuhler, Solverson, Johnson, Beasley, Leuchtenmacher and Raquel Reuter qualified in the 800-meter relay. The 3,200-meter relay squad of Reuter, Addison DePauw, Alexis Murray, Gracie Cooper, Judith Meister and Shayla Gould also advanced out of sectionals.

On the boys side, Easton Evenstad will run in the boys 100-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles, as well as compete in the long jump. Rhett Reuter will race in the 3,200-meter run. Rhett Reuter, Caleb Weaver, Michael Thompson, George West, Ethan Thompson and Cristian Gutierrez make the Darlington 3,200-meter boys relay squad that advanced.

Monticello advances in four events. Rudy Wicker reached state in the boys 400-meter dash, and Evan Guenther qualified in the 800- and 1,600-meter races. Hannah Clark advanced to the state meet in the girls 400-meter run.

Three local schools qualified one competitor for the state meet. Black Hawk sophomore Jaliyah Collins will represent the Warriors in the discus. Pecatonica-Argyle freshman Anna Tisch will race in the 300-meter hurdles. Albany freshman Ava Ahnen advanced in the 1,600-meter run.
