DODGEVILLE — The Knights, in an utter display of dominance, went 2-0 in the Dodgeville holiday tournament to be crowed champions.
New Glarus opened with a 72-31 victory over Jefferson on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
The Knights limited the Eagles to just 10 points in the first half, while scoring 35 of their own. In the second half, New Glarus outscored Jefferson yet again 37-21.
Lindsey Schadewalt led with 27 points, including five 3-pointers. She wasn’t the only offensive threat, though, as both Elle Lancaster and Grace Nommensen also finished in double figures. Lancaster totaled 13 points with three 3-pointers, while all of Nommensen’s points came from within the arc.
Ashlyn Enke was the only player in double figures for Jefferson, tallying 12 points. She was 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. The next highest scorer was Bre Mengel with nine points.
Despite several missed bunnies and easy opportunities, the Knights overpowered Baraboo 74-46 on Wednesday, Dec. 28.
New Glarus scored 38 points in the first half and nearly matched that performance in the second with 36 points. Conversely, the Thunderbirds scored 19 and 27 points, respectively.
Alex Atwell, after scoring just four points in the Jefferson game, broke out for 21 points against Baraboo. She had 13 opportunities at the free-throw line and capitalized on 11 of them. Schadewalt was the second-highest scorer with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Lancaster also drained three 3-pointers in her 11-point total. Nommensen tallied 11 points as the fourth Knight in double figures.
Taylor Pfaff recorded 14 points for the Thunderbirds, going 5-for-7 from the free-throw line. Jayden Ross trailed behind her with 12 points.
In 10 games, the Knights are averaging 60.4 points per game, compared to 40.6 by their opponents. Three players average double figures: Schadewalt (23.1), Atwell (14.6) and Nommensen (11.1).
