Juda falls to Belleville; Monticello trips Madison Country Day

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights continued their winning ways in the second week of the regular season, knocking off Columbus 78-62 in a Capitol Conference crossover game Nov. 27.

New Glarus led 41-36 at halftime and had eight players score in the second half.

Jaden Kreklow led the Knights (2-0) with 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Trevor Gassman scored 16 for New Glarus, which also received 10 from Mason Martinson and nine from Zach Feller and Connor Siegenthaler.

The Knights were scheduled to be back in action Friday against Dodgeville in a home nonconference game and then at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 against Forreston (Illinois) in a border battle at Lena-Winslow.

Darlington 59, Shullsburg 43

SHULLSBURG — Carter Lancaster scored 18 to lead the Redbirds over the Miners in the season opener Nov. 27.

Lancaster was one of four Darlington players to reach double-figures in the game, joined by Matthew Douglas (12), Stryker Fitzsimons 11) and Trae Schilling (10). 

Darlington (1-0) was scheduled to host Barneveld (0-2) Nov. 29 in a nonconference game. The SWAL opener at Mineral Point (1-0) is Dec. 4. 


Belleville 74, Juda 41

BELLEVILLE — The Panthers trailed 36-20 at halftime and couldn’t get any closer in a nonconference loss to the Wildcats Nov. 26.

Gavin Kammerer scored 20 points — hitting six 3s in the process — to lead Juda (0-2). Dogukan Yetgin had 9 and Avery Scheaffer scored 7 for the Panthers.

Belleville was led by Royce Clark, who scored 18 points. Kody Fahey had 11 and Sawyer Fahey had nine for the Wildcats (1-0).

Juda next plays Orangeville in the border battle at Lena-Winslow at 1 p.m. Dec. 1, and then hosts Warren Dec. 3 and Monticello Dec. 4.


Monticello 58, Mad. Country Day 53

MONTICELLO — The Ponies improved to 2-1 on the season thanks to standout performances by Reece Rufer, Jeffrey Ace and Peter Gustafson.

Rufer, a junior, and Gustafson, a sophomore, each scored 18 points while Ace, a senior, had 10. Simon Blohowiak added eight for Monticello.

The Ponies trailed 28-27 at halftime.

In other area of boys basketball action, Cuba City defeated Pecatonica 78-53 Nov. 27 and Benton topped Argyle 70-63 Nov. 26.
