Knights nab seven All-Conference spots
NG AC BB 2024

NEW GLARUS — The Capitol South runner-up New Glarus Knights landed seven players on the league all-conference list — Jake Roth, Patrick Alt, Leyton Mihlbauer, Landon Stelter, Zander Hauser, Nathan Hendrickson and Ashlin Mihlbauer.

Roth, a first-team outfielder, was a spark in the No. 9 hole. He was 20-for-62 at the plate with a .323 average — just one of three Knights to hit above .300. He roped five doubles, swiped four bases and scored 20 runs.

Alt, a first-team pitcher, posted an 8-0 record with a 2.27 ERA. In 58 2/3 innings, he struck out 65 batters and walked 13. At the plate, he tallied the team’s lone home run.

Leyton Mihlbauer, a first-team infielder, was a valuable two-way player. He was 16-for-60 at the plate for a .267 batting average. He led the team in walks (19) and hit by pitches (8). He was second on the team in runs scored (22) and stolen bases (4). Leyton Mihlbauer was the most-used pitcher, throwing 63 innings. He posted a 6-4 record with a team-leading 1.44 ERA. Despite giving up the most runs (33), just 13 of them were allowed.

Stelter, a first-team infielder, led the team in multiple offensive categories, including at bats (80), hits (30), doubles (11), RBIs (29) and batting average (.375). He also scored 13 runs.

Hauser, a first-team designated hitter, went 19-for-69 at the plate for a .275 batting average. He scored 10 runs, drove in nine and walked nine times.

Hendrickson, a second-team infielder, was two points away from batting .300, going 17-for-57 (.298). He scored 15 runs, drove in 10 and walked 11 times. Hendrickson also stole three bases.

Ashlin Mihlbauer, a second-team catcher, was second in the team in a handful of offensive categories, including at bats (69), RBIs (19) and walks (17). He collected 20 hits with three doubles for a .290 batting average.

New Glarus had its most successful season in program history, finishing second in the conference (7-3) to Cambridge (9-1). The Knights avenged conference losses to Marshall and Cambridge en route to the program’s first regional title and sectional appearance. They fell to eventual Division 4 champion Aquinas 9-3.
