Knights middle of the pack in new conference

DODGEVILLE — New Glarus improved to 3-1 on the season with a 43-22 blowout of Dodgeville on Sept. 13.

Glarner Knights QB Matt Roth had 193 yards on 14 of 19 passing with four TDs in the Week 4 win. Charlie Sarbacker added 82 yards rushing and a score. Luke Burton (53 yards, TD) and Milo Johnson (58 yards) also played a key role in the rushing attack. Will Pinnow scored on all three of his catches, totaling 93 yards receiving. Burton added 56 yards on three catches with a score, and Andrew Sarbacker collected eight catches for 45 yards. Simon Zimmerman paced the defense with 11 tackles and a sack. Both Sarbackers and Alex Ruschman intercepted passes for New Glarus.

The Knights (3-1, 1-1 SWC) scored 22 first quarter points and led 30-0 at halftime. Dodgeville (1-3, 0-2) gained 330 yards of offense through the air on 35 passes, but the three interceptions were costly.

New Glarus hosts Richland Center (1-3, 0-2) in Week 5.

 

Darlington 43, 

Southwestern-ED 12

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds (3-1, 2-0 SWAL) methodically punished the Warcats (3-1, 1-1) in Week 4. The scoring started in the opening minutes as Zeke Zuberbuhler scampered 70 yards for a score just 77 ticks into the game.

Southwestern-East Dubuque scored a touchdown of their own early in the second quarter, but the extra point missed. Darlington’s Calum Crist plunged forward for two, 1-yard TD runs later in the frame, helping put the Redbirds ahead 21-6 at the break. While SWED scored a second time midway through the third quarter, the Redbirds struck back swiftly, adding a touchdown of their own 70 seconds later on a 57-yard run by Zuberbuhler. The sophomore QB added his third touchdown of the day with a 20-yard pass to Maddox Goebel in the fourth quarter. Goebel then put the stamp on the route with a 69-yard pick-6 with 3:24 left in the fourth.

Zuberbuhler was 5 of 7 passing for 116 yards and added 156 yards on the ground on 10 carries. Crist had 110 yards rushing on 15 runs, and he added a 52-yard catch. Broker Buschor had a 30-yard catch.

The Redbirds, ranked ninth in Division 5, travel to Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg (1-4, 1-1) in Week 5.

 

River Valley 22, Brodhead-Juda 20

SPRING GREEN — The Cardinals attempted a fourth-quarter comeback but were denied by the host Blackhawks in their Week 4 SWC matchup.

Gabe Bockhop was 18-for-23 passing for 317 yards and two touchdowns and finished with 42 yards on six carries for Brodhead-Juda (0-4, 0-2). Nolan Bump had seven catches for 114 yards and both scores, while Brody Riese added two catches for 73 yards.

River Valley (2-1, 2-0) scored first and led 6-0 after the opening period. The Blackhawks held a 14-6 advantage by halftime. Brodhead-Juda scored two more times in the fourth quarter, but River Valley’s TD and 2-point conversion sealed the win.

The Cardinals host Dodgeville (1-3, 0-2) in Week 5.

 

Lake Mills 40, Belleville 20

LAKE MILLS — The Belleville Wildcats picked up both a win and a loss in Week 4, as Madison Abundant Life had forfeited their SWAL season earlier this year.

In a nonconference fill-in game, the Wildcats (1-4, 1-1) lost to the L-Cats (4-0), ranked seventh in Division 4.

Brennan Keyes had 91 passing yards and a TD for Belleville. Four Wildcats combined for 100 yards on the ground.

Lake Mills QB Tyler Wollin threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 71 yards on the ground.

The L-Cats scored four times in the second quarter and led 27-6 at halftime. Belleville fell behind 40-6 in the third until Keyes ran in a late touchdown to make it a 27-point game. Marcus Hebgen scored with just 30 seconds left for the Wildcats to make it a three-score game before the final buzzer rang.

Cooper Nemec added four catches for 55 yards and a TD for Belleville, which will travel to Mineral Point (1-3, 0-2) in Week 5.

 

Iowa-Grant 38, 

Pec-Argyle 16

MONFORT — The Vikings (2-2, 1-1 Six Rivers) hung with the Panthers in the first, leading 8-6 after the first quarter and trailing 22-16 at halftime. The second half was a different story, as Iowa-Grant (2-2, 2-0) scored twice and kept Pecatonica-Argyle out of the end zone.

Martin Anderson was just 7-for-29 passing for 91 yards, a score and an INT for the Vikings. As a unit, Pecatonica-Argyle had just 21 rushing yards on 16 attempts.

The Vikings host Wauzeka-Steuben (2-2, 1-1) in Week 5.

 

Westfield 37, Parkview-Albany 0

ORFORDVILLE — The Vikings (1-3, 0-2 Trailways) had 210 yards of offense but turned the ball over several times en route to a punishing loss to the Pioneers (2-2, 1-1).

Aiden Crane was 4-for-15 passing for 99 yards and two INTs for Parkview-Albany. Mathias Treinen was 4-for-6 for 89 yards and an INT. The Vikings had just 22 yards rushing on 23 attempts.

Parkview-Albany travels to Dodgeland (0-4, 0-2) in Week 5.

 

Wonewoc-Weston 42, Monticello 14

MONTICELLO — The Ponies (0-3, 0-2) fell behind Wonewoc-Weston (1-2, 1-1) 14-0 after the first quarter and trailed 28-6 headed into the fourth quarter of their Week 3 matchup on Sept. 14.

Tanner Hillard was just 3-for-19 passing for 24 yards and two INTs. Hunter Grossen had 67 yards rushing on 11 totes. Alex Roe had 15 tackles and an interception on defense, and Atreyu Blades had six tackles and a forced fumble. Corey Keyes added three tackles and two sacks.

Monticello travels to North Crawford (3-0, 2-0) in Week 4.
