MONROE — The Cheesemakers dropped a tough Badger South home game against Oregon Jan. 14, 3-2.

The Panthers scored one goal in all three periods, taking a 3-0 lead late into the game.

Monroe’s Payton Stauffacher put the Cheesemakers on the board with an unassisted goal with just 1:26 left to play. Moments later, Cade Janecke buried a penalty shot with 1:02 left on the clock to pull the Cheesemakers to within a goal, but time expired before an equalizer could light the lamp.

Heath Bear had 30 saves for Monroe, which was outshot 33-25 in the contest. Monroe was booked for seven penalties to just two for Oregon.

Monroe (12-3-0, 4-2 Badger South) holds a two-point advantage on the Panthers (5-7-1, 3-3) in the conference standings. The Cheesemakers were scheduled to play at Beloit Memorial in a nonconference game Jan. 16, then host conference leader Madison Edgewood (12-4-0, 6-0) Jan. 21.
