MIDDLETON — The Monroe High School Dance Team qualified for the WIAA State Dance Championship as a team for the fourth straight year this past weekend. The squad attended the Southern Regional Dance Competition in Middleton on Jan. 25, earning second place overall.
In Division 2 Jazz, Monroe earned second place with a routine choreographed by coach Kathryn Zastrow. As a result, the dance team qualified to perform the piece again at the state championships.
In Division 2 Hip Hop, the Cheesemakers qualified for state with a fourth place finish on a routine choreographed by senior Kierra Zahradka and veteran dancer Emery Smith.
Individually, Mikayla Schwartzlow and Lauren Stelter placed second in the Division 2 duet category for a routine they choreographed themselves. Aubrey Davis, Schwartzlow and Zahradka also advanced to the state meet with their self choreographed solos.
The WIAA State Dance Championships will take place Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 at the La Crosse Center.
