BELOIT — The Rock County Fury blasted the Badger Lightning 6-0 in a WIAA regional final playoff matchup.
Albany’s Haley Knauf had a hat trick, as the Fury scored two goals in the first, three in the second and another one in the third.
Knauf and Mya Maslonka each lit the lamp in the first period for Rock County. Anika Einbeck, Olivia Combs and Sarah Nerad were all credited with assists.
In the second, Knauf scored in the opening minute on a power play off a pass from Einbeck. Less than two minutes later Einbeck put the puck on nylon with assists coming from Abby Humphrey and Anna Malone.
With just five seconds remaining in the period, Presley Kovacevich scored off a pass from Cammi Ganshert to make it 5-0.
Knauf capped the hat trick with 2:35 left in the game on an unassisted goal.
Olivia Cronin saved all 14 shots she faced, while Brodhead’s Brooke Teubert spent the final 7:23 in net for the Fury and stopped two shots. Rock County outshot the Lightning 38-16.
Up next for the Fury (13-9-2) in the sectional semifinal is Onalaska (9-12-1) in the sectional semifinal scheduled for Feb. 19. In their only matchup this season, Onalaska won 5-3 at SLICE in Monroe on senior night Jan. 26.
The winner will advance to play either top-seeded Cap City Cougars (Sun Prairie, 12-7-3) or Metro Lynx (Middleton, 9-12-2) in the sectional final at 8 p.m. Feb. 22 at Madison Ice Arena for the rights to go to the state tournament. Rock County finished ahead of both teams for the Badger Conference crown this season. The Fury were 1-1 against both squads. Rock County topped the Cougars 2-1 in the regular season finale Feb. 11 to win the conference title.
