Monroe’s Einbeck leads the state in assists

JANESVILLE — The Rock County Fury picked up a pair of wins to open 2020, moving to 9-4 overall on the regular season and 4-0 in the Badger Conference. The Fury blew out Beaver Dam 9-0 on Jan. 2, then fended off the Fond Du Lac Warbirds 4-1 two days later.

In the win at Beaver Dam, the Fury scored six goals in the first period before adding one in the second and two in the third. 

Albany sisters Haley and Alyssa Knauf each scored two goals for the Fury. Monroe’s Anika Einbeck added a goal for Rock County, as did Sara Loerke, Olivia Combs, Kylie Evans and Amery Stuckey.

Orangeville’s Anna Malone and Presley Kovacevich each had two assists, while Alyssa Knauf, Einbeck, Evans, Loerke, Sam Wells and Claudia Boehlke each recorded assists. Olivia Cronin had three saves in one period, while Brodhead’s Brooke Teubert added three saves in two periods.

In the win over the Warbirds, Rock County fell behind 1-0 after the first period. In the second, Alyssa Knauf sent a pass to Einbeck, who put in the equalizer with just six and a half minutes left in the frame.

In the third period, Boehlke gave the Fury a 2-1 lead at the 4:32 mark off an assist by Alyssa Knauf. Combs made it 3-1 with 6:45 left in regulation. Loerke and Malone assisted.

Cronin played all 51 minutes in net and had 19 saves. The Fury out-shot the Warbirds 33-19.

Einbeck leads the state of Wisconsin in assists with 17. The Knauf sisters each have 13, which is tied for eighth. Einbeck and Haley Knauf are tied for ninth in the state in goals with 14 each. Einbeck’s 31 points is fourth most in the state, with Haley Knauf (27) sixth and Alyssa Knauf (26) tied for seventh. Cronin’s seven wins are fifth in the state, and her Goals Average Against of 2.08 ranks her 10th.
