JANESVILLE — The Rock County Fury girls hockey team picked up a win in the sectional semifinal Feb. 25 and will play for the chance to reach the state tournament Feb. 28.
Monroe’s Anika Einbeck scored an unassisted goal less than five minutes into the game on a breakaway, going top shelf to put Rock County ahead 1-0. It would be the last score of the game for either the Fury (16-8) or the visiting University School of Milwaukee Wildcats (7-13-4).
USM outshot the Fury 31-28 on the night, but Rock County goalie Olivia Cronin was stellar in net, stopping every puck that came her way. Cronin entered the game as the reigning Wisconsin Prep Hockey’s Girls Player of the Week.
Up next, Rock County travels to Fond du Lac to take on the Warbirds (7-10-5). Earlier this season on Jan. 4, the Fury defeated the Warbirds 3-1.
The winner advances to the state tournament at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. State semifinal games will be March 5, with the championship March 7.
