Fury drop 2, get bye in first round of playoffs

EAU CLAIRE — The Rock County Fury fell to 14-8 on the season with a 0-2 road split in a true road trip Feb. 7-8 to northwestern Wisconsin.

The team traveled to Somerset for a Feb. 7 game against Western Wisconsin Stars, where the Fury lost 4-2. The next day against the Eau Claire Area All-Stars, the Fury lost 3-2. In both games, Rock County led 2-1 after the second period.

Haley Knauf and Anika Einbeck scored goals for Rock County in the loss to Western Wisconsin. Haley and sister Alyssa Knauf also added assists. Rock County out-shot Western Wisconsin 24-21.

In the loss to Eau Claire, Einbeck scored twice with Anna Malone assisting the first goal. Eau Claire out-shot the Fury 33-23.

Rock County has just two games left in the regular season. On Feb. 13, the Fury travel to Sun Prairie to take on Badger Conference-leading Cap City Cougars. Two days later, the Fury host Viroqua at Edwards Ice Arena in Beloit. If the Fury win both games, they would clinch at least a share the conference championship.

The playoff brackets came out Feb. 9, and the Fury have a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed in the fourth sectional. Rock County will host the winner of Cedarburg and University School of Milwaukee co-op Feb. 25 at Edwards Ice Arena in Beloit.
