BELMONT — Pecatonica lost 13-0 to the No. 1-ranked team in Division 5 May 1.
Belmont, given the top billing in the state in Division 5 in the latest Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association poll, scored three runs in the first and then broke the game open with a 6-run second inning.
Tessa Green took the loss on the mound for the Vikings, allowing all 13 runs — though just two were earned. Green struck out three batters, walked one and gave up eight hits.
Pecatonica committed 12 errors in the field and had just two hits in the contest — a double by Lexi McSherry and a single from Abigail Loomis. The Vikings struck out 12 times.
Whitewater 27, Brodhead 8
BRODHEAD — In a game continued from April 25, the Whippets finished their whipping of the Cardinals April 29.
Whitewater scored 11 runs in the top of the first, but Brodhead scored seven in the bottom half of the inning to bring the deficit back down to four.
The contest was suspended midgame due to inclement weather and the action picked back up April 29.
Whitewater scored three runs in the second, five in the third and six more in the fourth to hold a commanding 25-7 lead headed into the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Whippets collected 27 hits and four walks in the five-inning game. Nine hits went for extra bases, including home runs by Jacee Johnson, Bryce Hibbs and Kailey Ruhl. Hibbs was 5 for 5 with three doubles, a home run, five runs scored and 11 RBIs.
Hannah Myhre was the only Cardinal with multiple hits, which included a double. Nataley Bump and Madisyn Kail each pitched for Brodhead, allowing 26 earned runs between the two.
Boscobel 9, Darlington 6
DARLINGTON — Bethany McDonald and Chloe Mulstein each had three hits for the Redbirds, which fought to the very end April 29.
Both teams scored two runs in the second inning, but Boscobel used a 4-run fourth to take control of the lead. The two teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and Darlington added another in the seventh, but couldn’t finish the rally.
Mulstein homered for the Redbirds and finished with two RBIs and two runs. McDonald had a double, Taylor Crist collected two hits and Alyssa Tuescher scored a pair of runs for Darlington.
Tuescher allowed six runs (four earned) on the mound in 3.2 innings of work, while Kaylyn McGuire came on in relief and allowed three runs (one earned) the rest of the way.
