Thomas Nelson is one of two seniors on the Argyle-Pecatonica roster this season. He joins classmate Hunter Lelle.

ARGYLE — Argyle-Pecatonica returns its entire roster from 2022, a team that finished third in the SWAL Conference and qualified for the Division 3 team sectional at Lawsonia Golf Club.

“Our strength will be returning an entire team that has varsity experience,” head coach Chuck Chandler said. “Making it to WIAA sectionals last year should give us confidence coming into this season.”

Sophomore Alex Ruetten leads the squad as a First-Team All-Conference selection in 2022.

While Ruetten has solidified his spot as the team’s best player, according to Chandler, the remainder of the lineup is up in the air.

“We need to do a better job of shooting consistent scores. I want our kids to push each other to be better,” Chandler said. “Alex is our best player. Who can prove they’re the next best?”

The remaining returners — all upperclassmen — include seniors Hunter Lelle, Thomas Nelson and juniors Evan Dochnal, Kyle Theorin and Glenn Jayne. Each golfer will vie for the No. 2 spot behind Ruetten.

“Hunter and Thomas will be the only seniors this season with varsity experience,” Chandler said. “Evan and Kyle will be depended on to contribute again this season. Both played pretty much exclusively on varsity last season. Glenn also has varsity experience.”

With a stacked roster and added competition, Chandler expects a top two or three finish in the SWAL. Mineral Point will be the biggest competition, as the Pointers return four golfers from their top-five finish at the Division 3 state meet.
