MONROE — The Fury played the final two games of their season Feb. 20 at SLICE against the Green Bay Bobcats. The two squads tied the opener, 2-2, and the Fury ended the season with a 4-1 victory.
In the opening game, Green Bay took a 2-0 lead late in the first period, but a senior souire broke the ice for the Fury. Senior Kylie Evans (Beloit Memorial) scored at the 8:21 mark in the second period, with seniors Anika Einbeck (Monroe) and Alyssa Knauf (Albany) assisting.
Einbeck then scored the equalizer with just two minutes left in the third with Knauf and Milton freshman Emma Kilgora assisting.
In the second game, Green Bay again struck first blood with a power play goal late in the second.
Not wanting to close the season with a loss, the Fury lived up to their name — scoring four goals in third, all of which by different players.
Einbeck evened the game at 1 with an unassisted goal midway through play. Less than two minutes later, Kilgora put the Fury ahead 2-1 with Amery Stuckey and Olivia Combs assisting.
Evans then made it 3-1 with Knauf and Einbeck assisting her yet again. Combs lit the lamp for the final time in the season with just 40 seconds left on the scoreboard.
In goal, Olivia Cronin stopped 32 of 33 shots in the game — and 51 of 54 on the day.
The Fury finish the season 8-7-1. Einbeck led the team with 18 goals in 16 games. She totaled 26 points (8 assists), which was equaled by longtime teammate and friend Knauf (9 G, 17 A). Einbeck ends her career with 151 points (81 G, 70 A) in 96 games. Knauf finishes with 135 points (65 G, 70 A) in 97 games.
