Egan reaches 100 career pins, Orloff earns 100th win

MOUNT HOREB — There were plenty of celebrations at the Mount Horeb Invite Saturday, Dec. 21 as Parkview-Albany’s Wes Egan earned his 100th career pin and Pecatonica-Argyle’s Lukas Orloff earned his 100th career win.

Egan and Slater Valley led Parkview-Albany to a tenth-place finish with 83 team points. Both were individual champions in their respective brackets. Egan (14-0, 285 lbs), ranked fourth in Division 3 per Wisconsin Grappler, pinned two opponents before winning 5-0 against Henry Miesbauer of Madison West in the championship. Valley (14-0, 113 lbs), ranked No. 14 in Division 3, faced just one opponent but made it count. He defeated Kyler Poulson of Palmyra Eagle by 16-1 tech fall, breaking Parkview’s senior record for tech falls. Currently, Valley has eight and the rest of the season to add on.

Orloff and Aidan Gruenenfelder were individual champions for Pecatonica-Argyle, which finished 11 of 15 teams with 74 points. Orloff (15-0, 126 lbs), ranked third in Division 3, pinned all three of his opponents, including Jasen Porras of Whitewater, who is ranked No. 12 in Division 2. Gruenenfelder (14-0, 120 lbs), ranked No. 1 in Division 3, also defeated a Division 2 ranked wrestler on his way to the championship. Gruenenfelder pinned Jarvis Porcaro of Whitewater, ranked No. 6 in Division 2, in 3:53.

Brodhead-Juda brought six wrestlers to the event, finishing seventh with 102 points. Thomas Lohmar (11-2, 106 lbs) was the lone individual champion for the Cardinals. He received two byes before pinning his way to the title In the championship match, Lohmar pinned Casey Poulson of Palmyra-Eagle in 1:29. Four of Lohmar’s teammates finished third — Todd Hall Jr., Jameson Wallin, Kavion Cupps and Chase Wilhite.


BADGER STATE

MADISON — Darlington-Black Hawk had two individual champions and took fourth place at the 26-team Badger State Invite Saturday, Dec. 21.

Owen Seffrood (9-0, 157 lbs), ranked No. 1 in Division 2, recorded three tech falls on his way to the championship match. There, he pinned Hudson Ludwig of Chilton in 1:46. Ludwig is ranked No. 9 in Division 2. Maddox Goebel (9-0, 175 lbs), ranked No. 2 in Division 2, pinned two opponents and won by tech fall twice, including in the championship match. There, he faced Gage Nelson of Stoughton. Teammates Eli Aird (fifth), Ross Crist (third) and Kaden Drake (fifth) also made the podium in their respective brackets.

With 10 wrestlers at the event, Sugar River finished sixth of 26 teams with 144.5 points. Blake Endres and Cayson Helwig were the top point-getters, as each finished second in their respective brackets. Endres (14-1, 126), ranked No. 1 in Division 2, pinned two opponents to get to the championship. There, he suffered his first loss of the season, losing to Wilmot Union’s Thiago Guardiola by a tiebreaker. Guardiola is ranked No. 6 in Division 1. Helwig (14-2, 165 lbs) recorded two pins and a tech fall to earn a spot in the championship. There, he fell to Bryce Lenzendorf of Prairie du Chien by 17-0 tech fall. Lenzendorf is ranked No. 6 in Division 2. Raider teammates Zech Bair (eighth), Ashlin Mihlbauer (fourth), Brennan Keyes (third), Ryker Swenson (fourth) and Trei Udelhoven (fourth) also placed.

Monroe finished 12th of 26 teams with one individual champion in Carson Menehan. Menehan (16-1, 138 lbs), ranked No. 8 in Division 2, had a tough journey to the championship. He won by tech fall in the second round, a 13-0 major decision in the quarterfinal and by tiebreaker over Nathan Johnson of Dodgeville in the semifinal. Johnson is ranked No. 14 in Division 2. In the championship, Menehan pinned Logan Steffen of Oregon. Cheesemaker teammates Owen Voegeli (third), Connor Eckdhal (sixth), Braedyn Nally (fifth) and Joe Rufenacht (sixth) also placed. 


GIRLS WRESTLING

MOUNT HOREB INVITE

MOUNT HOREB —  Six local wrestlers from three different teams represented at the Mount Horeb Girls Invite Saturday, Dec. 21.

Parkview-Albany’s Sydney Coyne (10-1, 235 lbs) was an individual champion, pinning all four of her opponents. The quickest match was just 25 seconds. Coyne is ranked No. 15 in her weight class. Viking teammate Serenity Pautsch took seventh.

Sugar River’s Rosadella LaFrance went 1-2 for third, while Adalyn Danz-Grass went 3-2 for fourth. Brodhead-Juda’s Lily Scheidegger finished third, and Olivia Brooks finished fifth.  


BADGER STATE

MADISON — Darlington-Black Hawk sent two wrestlers to the Girls Badger State Invite Saturday, Dec. 21. Ashlynn Eckerman (14-2, 152 lbs) finished third, going 4-1. Her lone loss was a pin by Eliana Callies of Rochester Century. Eckerman is ranked No. 10 in her weight class. Warbird teammate Kaylee Russell went 3-2 for sixth.
