SPRING GREEN — Four area teams competed against 41 others at the River Valley Invitational Sept. 13 at Spring Green. The results were split between large schools and small schools. Darlington girls won the small school team title, while Monroe’s girls were second in the large school division. On the boys side, Albany was fourth in the small school race, while Monroe was eighth in the large school.
In the large school girls race, the No. 4-ranked Cheesemakers finished in second place with 82 points, just behind champion Madison West (70). Four of Monroe’s top five runners placed in the Top 20. The Cheesemakers were led by sophomore Vicki Wolf, who finished 10th with a time of 20:05.3. Senior Aniyah Jackson-Bey (13th, 20:18.0), freshman Braylin Cleary (16th, 20:36.0), junior Lyla Ritschard (20th, 20:54.0) and sophomore Alivia Mosher (23rd, 21:10.1) also scored for Monroe.
New Glarus-Monticello placed 16th. Senior Molly Olson finished 21st in 20:58.7. Other finishers for New Glarus-Monticello were sophomore Mya Clark (83rd, 23:30.6), freshman Lucy Sidwell (84th, 23:35.3), junior Mirielle Smith (87th, 23:41.3) and freshman Evelyn Marunde (108th, 25:14.5).
The Monroe boys team, ranked 11th, finished in eighth place. The “Hounds” scored 230 points. Sophomore Weston Huntsman was 20th with a time of 17:19.1. Also scoring points for the Cheesemakers were senior Tre Dammen (37th, 17:59.6), freshman Ace Rossing (47th 18:07.6), senior Brady Keehn (57th, 18:19.0) and sophomore Lucas Veeder (69th, 18:36.8).
New Glarus-Monticello finished 17th in the race as junior Dylan Gardner placed 71st in 18:45.7. Right behind him was sophomore teammate Benjamin Biank (72nd, 18:48.2). Other New Glarus-Monticello runners were sophomore Eddie Blumer (102nd, 20:07.3), senior Jack Umhoefer (121st, 21:06.4), and junior Joren Salas (129th, 22:05.3).
In the small school girls race, Darlington (42) dominated the field, while Albany (234) finished ninth and Argyle-Pecatonica (310) 13th out of 16 teams.
Darlington’s Adalee Berget was the race champion with a time of 19:19.4. Teammate Alaina McGowan (19:51.9) was third. Also running for the Redbirds were Brianna Vazquez (10th, 20:53.2), Clara Solverson (14th, 21:26.4), Madison Welacha (20th, 21:55.5), Austia Staffacher (26th, 22:14.9) and Piper DePauw (42nd, 23:20.3).
Emerson Butts (18th, 21:45.2) led Albany, followed by Emma Thompson (27th, 22:16.0), Emerson Briggs (47th, 23:35.1), Lydia Ahnen (51st, 23:46.9) and Brielle Smith (115th, 32:35.8).
Argyle-Pec was led by Emma Johnsen (24th, 22:10.9). Loretta Tisch (63rd, 24:26.7), Mazie Theorin (66th, 24:42.2), Sophie Howard (86th, 26:22.2), Dalaney Fisher (83rd, 27:01.1), Avery Webster (106th, 29:13.2) and Olivia Anderson (108th, 29:38.1) also ran.
On the boys side,
Darlington’s Marcus Kendall was fourth overall (17:19.1), four spots ahead of Albany’s Kaleb Broughton (17:36.3).
Also running for the Comets were Kamden Broughton (32nd, 18:51.4), Brooks Wachholz (39th, 19:14.0), Beckett Wachholz (55th, 19:50.2), Brodyn Bakken 62nd, 20:12.9), Tyler Patchen (82nd, 21:12.4) and Michael Schwartz (85th, 21:38.5).
Redbird runners joining Kendall included Angel Hernandez (63rd, 20:18.9), Artemio Rico (89th, 22:06.7) and Behrett Cecil (23:18.3).
Argyle-Pec runners included Ayden Slater (29th, 18:48.9), Mitchell Johnsen (34th, 19:01.3), Kaleb Baumann (73rd, 20:45.2), Grant Kuberski (77th, 21:00.3), Leif Kyrie (94th, 22:18.6), Eli Harris (95th, 22:18.8) and Tristan Olson (97th, 22:32.2).
Monroe, Darlington and Argyle-Pecatonica will participate in the Boscobel night meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18. New Glarus-Monticello was scheduled to be at the Marshall Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 16 before taking part in the Belleville Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Brodhead-Juda 3rd at East Troy
EAST TROY — The Brodhead-Juda Cardinals boys and girls cross country teams both took third place at the East Troy Invitational at Camp Timber-Lee near East Troy.
The boys race saw Mavrik Plummer take fourth place with a time of 18:12.7. Jorge Villalva finished 16th (19:30.0) and Treyton Leutenegger was 23rd (20:09.2).
The girls team placed three runners in the Top 20. Olivia Brooks was sixth with a time of 22:20.1. Rachel Hatter was 17th in 23:28.1. Right behind her was Ryleigh Brown in 18th place with a time of 23:28.8. Isabelle Yoshida finished in 25th place (24:34.2).
Brodhead-Juda will compete at the Edgerton Invitational on Sept. 18.
