BELLEVILLE — Senior Toria Devoe scored a career-high 37 points to help the Belleville Wildcats win their third straight game, 58-47 over the Dodgeville Dodgers in nonconference girls basketball action on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

Devoe finished off the night going 8 for 8 at the free throw line over the final two minutes of the game. Devoe had 18 points at halftime as the Wildcats took a 27-19 lead.

A field goal by senior Cora Funseth with 14:30 to play gave Belleville a 35-21 lead over the Dodgers. Devoe made two free throws with 8:41 to go to give the Wildcats a 42-31 lead. Dodgeville closed to within 42-35 with 4:05 left in the game as Emma Dougherty made two free throws and a layup. Belleville countered with a three by Devoe and a basket by junior Hayden Caskey to maintain a 47-37 lead with 2:25 to go. The Dodgers were forced to foul Devoe and she made eight straight free throws while Funseth made one of two and junior Nikole Schultz knocked down two free throws to secure the win for the Wildcats.

It was the third straight game in which Devoe scored over 30 points. She scored 31 in a win over Waupun on Dec. 15 and 31 points in a win over Poynette on Dec. 19. Other leading scorers for Belleville in their win over Dodgeville were Funseth with eight points and Caskey with five points.

Belleville coach Eric Liegel said he has a lot of confidence in Devoe when games get down to crunch time.

“She’s averaging probably over 15 free throws a game right now and she’s shooting 84% and in the biggest moments she wants the ball and be at the free throw line so I have confidence in her,” Liegel said.

Belleville (5-4) will travel to Albany to take on Albany-Monticello on Monday, Jan. 5.
