BELLEVILLE — There is a new all-time leading scorer in Belleville Wildcats girls basketball history. Senior Toria DeVoe reached the milestone on Friday Dec. 12 in the Wildcats 53-38 loss to Columbus in nonconference girls basketball.
DeVoe needed only three points in the game to set the mark. Her first shot of the night was a three-pointer and she made it to become the program’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Tifanie Brady’s (now Tifanie Jenson) record of 1,196 points. With that three-pointer, DeVoe also has hit the most three-point shots in a career at Belleville, surpassing Quinn Rear’s record of 162 three-pointers made.
Outside of DeVoe’s career milestone, it was an uphill night for the Wildcats as they trailed at halftime 28-11. In the second half, Belleville got the deficit down to six points but got no closer. DeVoe led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points. Belleville shot just 19.6% for the game.
Belleville (2-4) has yet to play a Capitol Conference South game, but had another nonconference game scheduled at Waupun on Monday Dec. 15.
Jefferson 48, Monroe 26
JEFFERSON — Points were hard to come by for the Monroe Cheesemakers as they lost to the Jefferson Eagles 48-26 in Rock Valley Conference, Valley Division action on Friday Dec. 12. Jefferson got out to a 14-11 lead midway through the first half, but turnovers plagued the Cheesemakers and Jefferson capitalized with a 14-3 run to take a 28-14 lead at halftime.
Monroe looked like they were going to climb back into it early in the second half with seven straight stops on defense and a 6-0 run, but Jefferson responded with a 7-0 run and pushed the lead to 15. The Cheesemakers scored just six more points the rest of the game.
Sophomore Brynlee Scace led the Cheesemakers with eight points. Sophomore Analise Newcomer scored five points, and junior Bray Friedrich had four points to lead the Cheesemakers.
Monroe (1-4, 0-3) was scheduled to make up a nonconference game at Benton on Monday Dec. 15 before hosting Whitewater on Thursday, Dec. 18.
Argyle-Pecatonica 59, Black Hawk 23
SOUTH WAYNE — Senior Kylie Butler scored 22 points and Junior Brooke Wellnitz contributed 18 points and 21 rebounds to lead No. 1 ranked Argyle- Pecatonica to a 59-23 victory over the Black Hawk Warriors in Six Rivers East conference girls basketball on Thursday, Dec 11.
AP held the Warriors to just 10 points in the second half after taking a 28-13 halftime lead.
Argyle-Pecatonica (4-0, 3-0) has a nonconference game on their schedule against Evansville on Tuesday Dec. 16 before playing in a nonconference game at Potosi-Cassville on Friday, Dec. 19.
Albany-Monticello 85, Clinton 42
ALBANY — The Albany-Monticello Space Stallions took a 26-point halftime lead and cruised past the Clinton Cougars 85-42 in nonconference girls basketball on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Four players scored in double figures for the Space Stallions. Senior Molly Olson led all scorers with 25 points. Freshman Emerson Butts tallied 21 points, sophomore Heidi Olson had 17 points, and freshman Annie Olson delivered 11 points for AM. The 85 points were a season high for Albany-Monticello.
The Space Stallions improved to 5-1 overall with the win. AM (1-1 Six Rivers East) will play another nonconference game on Friday, Dec. 19 at River Ridge.
Darlington 58, Fennimore 50
FENNIMORE — The Darlington Redbirds got their first win of the season, and it came in a 58-50 win over the Fennimore Golden Eagles in SWAL Conference action on Friday, Dec. 12.
Senior Maddie Gratz led three players in double figures with 16 points. Senior Sadie Goebel chipped in with 13 points, and senior Catie Hartwig had 10 points along with three steals. It was the 9th consecutive win for the Redbirds over the Golden Eagles.
Darlington (1-3, 1-1) was scheduled for another SWAL Conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Mineral Point.
In other girls basketball, on Thursday, Dec. 11, Barneveld defeated Juda 69-19 and on Friday, Dec. 12, Brodhead ousted Turner 50-46.
