DBH’s Aird collects 100th career win

FENNIMORE — Darlington senior Ethan Aird picked up his 100th career win in the Fennimore triangular on Friday, Jan. 19. He pinned his opponent in 4:47 after building up a 9-4 lead.

Darlington-Black Hawk fell to Fennimore, ranked No. 1 in Division 3, 46-24. The Warbirds did not wrestle Iowa- Grant/Highland, ranked No. 2 in Division 3, due to time and DBH’s tournament in Fort Atkinson the next day.

TKO-TERRY KRAMER OPEN

FORT ATKINSON — Darlington-Black Hawk finished fifth of 17 teams (276.5 points) at the Terry Kramer Open on Saturday, Jan. 20. Iowa-Grant/Highland won the event with 443 points.

Owen Seffrood (144) kept his perfect season alive (33-0), with two tech falls, a 15-6 major decision and pin in the championship match. Seffrood, ranked No. 1 in Division 2, took down Iowa-Grant/Highland’s Brock Hinderman, ranked No. 3 in Division 3, in 1:23.

Breylin Goebel (157), ranked No. 4 in Division 2, went 5-0 with a tech fall, pin, 15-3 major decision and two decisions. In the championship, he went all six minutes with Elijah Terrell of Slinger, a Division 1 team, coming out on top 9-5.

Ross Crist (190), ranked No. 11 in Division 2, pinned four opponents to reach the championship. There, he bested Sussex Hamilton’s Nate Behrndt, 7-3. Hamilton is a Division 1 team.

Maddox Goebel (165) took second, falling to Division 1 Caleb Cady of Pewaukee, 9-1. In the semifinal, Maddox Goebel upset Jeremiah Avery of Prairie du Chien, 13-6. Avery is currently ranked No. 3 in Division 2.

JEWELL INVITATIONAL

RICHLAND CENTER — Darlington-Black Hawk’s Ashlynn Eckerman (152) and Kaylee Russell (138) won their respective brackets in the Jewell Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Eckerman, ranked No. 9, pinned both Hannah Bade of Waupun and Reanna Dollar of Lancaster. Russell went 3-1 with three pins. Her loss came to Cieara Ogren of Oregon. 

CHALLENGE SERIES

WAUSAU — Parkview-Albany sent four to the girls-only Challenge Series on Saturday, Jan. 20 where 343 wrestlers participated. 

Sydney Coyne (235) finished 4-1 to earn the consolation A championship. Her only loss was to Kaylee Manning of Ithaca-Weston, who is ranked No. 8. Lexi Hanson (107) went 2-2 with two pins. Autumn Hill (114) went 0-2 in the preliminaries. Ayda Klein (120) also went 0-2. 

Sugar River’s Adalyn Danz-Grass (145) also attended the series, going 1-2 with a pin.

BRODHEAD-JUDA TRI

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals faced stiff competition in its triangular on Thursday, Jan. 18. Brodhead-Juda fell to No. 6-ranked Evansville 68-9 and Turner 44-28.

Marcus McIntyre (138), ranked No. 6 in Division 2, went 2-0 with a 10-5 decision and pin. Chase Wilhite (190) also went 2-0 with two pins.

Joe Lohmar (150), ranked No. 3 in Division 2, suffered his first loss of the season to No. 1-ranked Danny Heiser of Evansville, 18-3.
