Darlington Opens Softball Postseason With Win Over Parkview

DARLINGTON — The Darlington Redbirds, a No. 8 seed, opened the softball postseason with a 5-3 win over the No. 9 seed Parkview Vikings in a regional quarterfinal on Thursday May 22. The Redbirds scored all of their runs in the third inning. Sophomore Raynie Norgard went 3x3 with an RBI and a run scored. Junior Kylie Crist was 1x3 and drove in two runs for the Redbirds. Junior Sydney Wiegel pitched a complete game and gave up three runs on six hits.

Darlington (3-18) advanced to the Division 4 regional semifinal and will face the No. 1 seeded Cuba City Cubans on May 27 at Cuba City.


Belleville’s Season Ends In Round 1

COLUMBUS — The Wildcats put up a fight, but an early deficit proved to be too much to overcome in a 7-3 season-ending loss at Columbus May 22 in the first round of the WIAA Division 3 playoffs.

Belleville’s Jocelyn Raven had two walks and scored twice, while Korynn Potter and Bryn Prochaska had a hit and a walk each. Story Fossum pitched all six innings for the Wildcats, striking out three and walking two while allowing seven hits and four earned runs. 

Columbus scored two runs in the first, three in the second and two more in the fourth to go ahead 7-2. Both teams finished the day with three errors. Columbus advances to play top-seeded No. 1 Beloit Turner in Round 2.

In other WIAA playoff softball action, 8-seed Pecatonica defeated 9-seed Southwestern 8-7 in 11 innings in the opening round of the Division 5 playoffs on May 22. The Vikings advance to play at top-seeded and top-ranked Belmont on May 27.
