MONROE — The bats came alive for the Cheesemakers, which picked up a Badger West win over Baraboo May 10.

Sophomore Keegan Dahmen got himself out of trouble in the first inning, stranding a runner at third. He went 5.1 innings, striking out seven and scattering five hits and two walks to get the win. Chase Stoerp closed the sixth, striking out a batter.

Monroe scored three runs in the bottom of the first, then added a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings. In the sixth inning, the Cheesemakers took advantage of some Thunderbird miscues and scored five runs to end the game early. 

George Brukwicki, Trevor Schmitt, Keatin Sweeney and Brevin Rach each had two hits for Monroe. Rach dove in three runs, while Sweeney had two RBIs with a double. 


River Ridge 13, Argyle 5

ARGYLE — The Orioles struggled to stop the River Ridge offense during their May 9 Six Rivers crossover game. The Wildcats scored in all seven innings, while Argyle scratched across a single run in the second and third, and put up a 3-spot in the fourth.

Will Helfvogt had three hits for Argyle, while Alex Gilbertson had two. Max Godfrey tripled. Helfvogt threw four innings on the mound before being relieved by Ike Waage and later Brady Penniston.


Argyle 9, Monticello-Albany 1

MONTICELLO —Godfrey had four hits and three RBIs as the Orioles ran away from the Ponies May 10.

Buddy Gerber also had a solid game for Argyle, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, and had 11 strikeouts in 5.2 shutout innings, scattering three hits and three walks. Helfvogt also had two hits for Argyle. Brady Penniston allowed one run in 1.1 innings in relief, with all four outs coming via K.

Tyler Anderson doubled for M-A, and pitched four innings, giving up seven runs (four earned). Carson Gafner tossed the final two.


Black Hawk 9, Monticello-Albany

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors took advantage of six Pony errors May 9. 

Eight of the nine Warriors in the batting lineup had a hit, with Cccccc Baumgartner leading the way with two. Dylan Haldiman doubled and Rrrrrr Mosley homered for Black Hawk.

Brayden Bakken and Jackson Eyler doubled for M-A, with Eyler collecting three hits. Anderson had two RBIs and two hits, including a triple.

Andy Gertsch took the loss for MA. Dempsey Schliem tossed three innings for Black Hawk, allowing two runs, with Haldiman throwing the final four with just one run allowed. 


Pecatonica 23, Black Hawk 0

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings had a parade around the basepaths in a May 10 against the Warriors. Just two of Pecatonica’s 13 hits went for extra bases, but the team added seven walks and a hit by pitch. The Vikings stole 10 bases and had 97 total bases in the game.

Hunter Enloe had just one hit — a double — but walked three times and scored four runs for the Vikings. Tyler McKeon had three hits and five RBIs from the leadoff spot. McKeon tossed four innings on the mound, striking out eight and scattering four hits. Coy Ruegsegger struck out the side in the fifth to end the game.


Waterloo 14, New Glarus 4

WATERLOO — The Pirates walked off the Knights in the bottom of the sixth inning of their Capitol South game May 10.

New Glarus scored in the top of the first, but Waterloo scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning, and two more in the second to get out ahead 8-1.

Leyton Mihlbauer had two hits and two runs for New Glarus, while teammate Brennan Butler doubled, singled and had two RBIs. Patrick Alt took the loss on the hill, going just 2/3 of an inning with five runs allowed. Mihlbauer tossed the next three innings, and Brett Warrell added two innings of relief at the end of the game.


Darlington 16, Iowa-Grant 5

Darlington 12, Iowa-Grant 0

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds offense kept rolling May 9-10, as they picked up a pair of SWAL wins over Iowa-Grant in a home-and-away series.

Breylin Goebel had four hits, three RBIs and four runs for Darlington. Teammate Gage Banfield had three hits and five RBIs. Braden Davis had three hits, four runs and two RBIs from the top of the lineup, while Cadyn Burbach had three hits, four runs and three RBIs from the 9-hole. Banfield, Parker Shager, Hunter Hardyman and Brady Horne all doubled for Darlington. Goebel and Davis both tripled and homered in the series. Burbach also homered.

The Redbirds saved their arms and combined to use six pitchers in the two games, allowing just seven hits in 11 innings while striking out a combined 15 batters.


East Troy 11, Brodhead-Juda 1

BRODHEAD — The Trojan scored seven runs in the second and three in the third to jump out to a 10-1 advantage in a May 10 Rock Valley Conference game.

Aidyn Vondra was 3-for-3 with a steal for the host Cardinals. He scored Brodhead-Juda’s lone run off an RBI from Brady Malkow.

Clayton Elliott started for the Cardinals but was relieved in the third from Kohen Sawle. Mason Kammerer finished the night with two innings on the bump for the Cards.
