BRODHEAD — Senior Alecia Dahl had a milestone night as the Brodhead Cardinals rolled past the Parkview Vikings in nonconference girls basketball on Friday, Jan. 2.
Dahl scored 21 points to become the all-time leading scorer in Brodhead girls basketball history. She surpassed Erin Nyhus, who scored 1501 points in her career at Brodhead. Dahl now has 1507 points to become the all-time scoring leader.
The Cardinals took a 35-19 halftime lead and revved up the scoring with a 41 point second half. Senior Gretchen Kammerer and freshman Ella Olson each scored 12 points to give the Cardinals their seventh straight win.
Brodhead (9-1) hosted Jefferson in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Platteville 60, New Glarus 55
NEW GLARUS — Junior Ellie Brenkman was one rebound short of a double-double and the New Glarus Glarner Knights came up just short of a win as the Platteville Hillmen got by the Knights 60-55 in nonconference action on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Brenkman scored 14 points and collected nine rebounds in the loss. Sophomore Annabelle Curl got nine points and junior Kate Parman dropped in eight points for New Glarus. Freshman Ellie Parman led New Glarus in assists with six.
New Glarus (5-5) faced a big test on Monday, Jan. 5 as they traveled to Argyle to meet No. 2-ranked Argyle-Pecatonica (9-1) in a nonconference game.
Argyle-Pecatonica 80, Benton 19
BLANCHARDVILLE — Senior Kylie Butller went off for 28 points, including five 3-pointers, junior Brooke Wellnitz scored 18 points, and junior Avari Steiner added 17 points as Argyle-Pecatonica blasted Benton 80-19 in a Six Rivers conference crossover game on Friday, Jan. 2.
Wellnitz finished with a double-double as she had 18 rebounds and Steiner handed out seven assists to lead AP. The 78ers led from start to finish as they took a 52-8 halftime lead.
Argyle-Pecatonica (9-1) had a nonconference game scheduled at Argyle on Monday, Jan. 5.
Darlington 59, Highland 43
HIGHLAND — The Darlington Redbirds shot 50% from the floor (22-44) on their way to a 59-43 win over the Highland Cardinals in nonconference girls basketball on Saturday, Jan 3. It was the Redbirds’ sixth straight victory.
The game was a twin-bill with the boys teams, dubbed the Aaron Lancaster Memorial Cancer Awareness series in remembrance of Aaron Lancaster, who passed away in 2021. Lancaster played and coached at Darlington and served as Principal. Lancaster also coached football and girls basketball at Highland.
Senior Maddie Gratz led the Redbirds with 21 points and eight rebounds. Senior Sadie Goebel scored 12 points on four three-pointers.
Darlington (6-3) had a nonconference game on their schedule at Black Hawk on Monday, Jan. 5.
Monroe 60, North Boone 39
MONROE — The Monroe Lady Cheesemakers spent New Year’s Eve winning a nonconference girls basketball game as they took down the North Boone (Ill.) Vikings 60-39 at home on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
After trailing 8-2, the Cheesemakers got the lead with a 12-2 run in the first half and never trailed the rest of the way. The Cheesemakers were able to take a double-digit lead at halftime at 32-22 and increased the lead to 20 in the second half.
Junior Braylee Friedrich led the Cheesemakers with 23 points while senior Alexis Gertsch came through with 13 points and sophomore Brynlee Scace added 10 points. Overall, the Cheesemakers had eight players who scored in the game.
Monroe improved to 3-5 overall with the win. The Cheesemakers had a Rock Valley conference crossover game scheduled on the road against the Clinton Cougars on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
