Cuba City ousts Darlington

CUBA CITY — The Cuba City Cubans defeated the Darlington Redbirds 12-0 in five innings in a Division 4 regional semifinal on Tuesday, May 27.

The Redbirds, a No. 8 seed, were only able to get two hits, one by catcher Maddy Corley and the other by left fielder Isabelle Winkers. SS Lylah Norgard, pitcher Sydney Wiegel, and DH Zoe Mau each got on base with a walk.

Darlington ends their season with a record of 3-19. Cuba City (21-4), the state runner-up in Division 4 last year, advances to the regional championship to face Iowa-Grant on Thursday, May 29.

Argyle-Black Hawk bow out

LIVINGSTON — Mya McNett struck out seven batters and allowed zero earned runs in a regional semifinal game at Iowa Grant on May 27. Usually, a similar pitching line would result in a win. However, the Orioles committed six errors on defense, allowing six unearned runs to score, allowing Iowa-Grant to advance in postseason play with a 6-4 finish.

Argyle-Black Hawk also struggled to get the big hit it needed on offense late in the game. Trailing by two, ABH had two runners on with two outs in the sixth, but Kylie Butler just missed the barrel and the gap and instead grounded out to first base.. The Orioles collected just three hits but had seven reach base on walks and hit by pitches.
