Comets streak past O’s
basketball net swish

ALBANY — The Comets positioned themselves to finish second in the Six Rivers East with a 48-39 win over Argyle Feb. 18.

Brianna Dahl scored 16 points to lead Albany, while Kristin O’Bel had 12 points and Payton Wachholz eight.

Tori Lantz paced the Orioles with 13 points, including a 9 for 11 mark from the charity stripe. Maggie Godfrey finished with 10 for Argyle, and McKenzee Granberg had seven.

Albany led 18-16 at halftime. Both teams are now tied at 8-3 in conference play with one game to play. 

Argyle finished the night 17 for 21 from the free throw line, while the Comets were just 10 of 21.


Black Hawk 92, Juda 13

JUDA — The top-ranked Warriors (19-0, 11-0 Six Rivers East) took care of business over heavily mismatched Juda (3-16, 1-10) Feb. 18. 

Black Hawk jumped out to a 65-6 lead by halftime, with Natalie Leuzinger scoring 19 of her game-high 22 points. Hannah Butler had 12 of her 21 points in the first half as well. Bailey Butler finished with 15 points, while Kristen Knapp had nine points and Kaylee Marty eight.

The Warriors stole the ball 29 times and committed just 10 turnovers themselves. Black Hawk was 32 of 62 from the field, including a 13 for 23 mark (56.5%) from downtown. Leuzinger and Hannah Butler each hit three 3s, while Bailey Butler and Kristen Knapp each hit two 3s. Leuzinger finished with seven steals, while both Butlers had five steals.


New Glarus 60, Monticello 30

MONTICELLO — The Glarner Knights jumped out to a 37-11 halftime lead and never looked back in a nonconference win over the Ponies Feb. 18.

New Glarus junior Jaylynn Benson led all scorers with 24 points. Brooke Watrud, Ellie Eichelkraut and Lily Himmelmann each had six points for the Knights, while teammates Morgan Thompson, Dylan Noll and Shealyn Klosterman-Havens finished with five.

Mackie Errthum led Monticello with 11 points. Harley Disch and Miah Brokopp each had eight.


Brodhead 59, McFarland 56

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals took control in the second half and knocked off the Spartans in a Rock Valley game Feb. 17.

Abbie Dix finished with 19 points, while Carissa Purdue had 18 and Kiarra Moe 16 for Brodhead. Purdue had 16 points alone to key the Cardinals in the second half, including hitting 8 of 9 free throws down the stretch. Moe had 11 points in the second half. 

Brodhead finished 20 of 26 from the charity stripe, with a 15 for 20 mark in the second half.

Katie Hildebrandt led McFarland with 26 points, while Lindsey Lonigro added 16.

In other area action, Barneveld defeated Pecatonica 67-40 Feb. 18.
