MONROE — A nearly 10-minute scoring drought to open the game put the Cheesemakers too far behind visiting Mount Horeb in a Badger West-South game Dec. 18. Monroe went on to lose 55-32.
The Vikings opened the game on a 9-0 run, keeping Monroe off the scoreboard until a pair of free throws at the 9:14 minute mark of the first half. The Cheesemakers’ first basket came more than a minute later.
After 12 minutes of play Monroe trailed by 13. Just twice more in the first half could the Cheesemakers bring the deficit back to single digits (9 points), and by halftime, the visitors held a 26-14 advantage. Mount Horeb opened the second half on a 6-0 run over the first four minutes and gradually continued to grow.
Grace Vesperman scored 20 points to lead the Vikings. She hit two 3-pointers and was 8 of 9 from the free throw line.
Taylor Jacobson scored 12 points to lead Monroe, with Sloane Ambrose adding 11.
The Cheesemakers (0-6) were scheduled to play at Westosha Central Dec. 21, and then at Platteville Dec. 28. On Dec. 31, Monroe hosts Freeport in the annual Snack Bowl, with the girls’ game beginning at 2 p.m. and the boys to follow at 3:30.

ARGYLE — The Orioles dominated back-to-back games Dec. 17-18.
In a Six Rivers East slate against the Panthers, Grace Ganshert had a double-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals and six assists. Maggie Godfrey also had a double-double, with 15 points, 12 steals, seven blocks, seven assists and five rebounds. Alyssa Stadola hit four 3-pointers and tallied 22 points, while Chesney Leigh finished with 11 points.
The next day against Warren, Godfrey finished with a double-double, recording 18 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and four blocks. Ganshert added a game-high 28 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Stadola added 12 points.
Albany 61, Pecatonica 41
ALBANY — The Comets jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead and never looked back in their Dec. 17 Six Rivers East victory over the visiting Vikings.
Brianna Dahl had 23 points to lead Albany. She is now less than 50 points from the all-time program record.
Payton Wachholz had 12 points for Albany, while Kaiya Zurfluh finished with 10 and Alana Durtschi 8.
Lexi Peterson led Pecatonica with 14 points, while Chloe Schraepfer added 12.
Brodhead 60, East Troy 35
BRODHEAD — The fourth-ranked Cardinals stayed unbeaten after dominating the visiting Trojans Dec. 16.
Abbie Dix had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Brodhead (9-0, 6-0 Rock Valley). Kiarra Moe (11 points) and Onnikah Oliver (10 points) also reached double digits for the Cardinals, while teammate Madisyn Kail notched eight points.
Amya Pluess was the only East Troy player in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
Up next for the Cardinals was a road game Dec. 21 at Whitewater. Brodhead faces Belleville and Mineral Point in nonconference games Dec. 29-30 at the Evansville Tournament.
Black Hawk 43, Monticello 26
SOUTH WAYNE — Raylin Peterson had 18 points and Tatum Baumgartner added 15 for the Warriors, improving their Six Rivers East win streak to 61 games.
Black Hawk led 24-14 at halftime, and expanded its lead in the second half despite only attempting four free throws in the game. Tara Wellnitz scored six points in the post, but grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists. The Warriors committed just 10 turnovers and fouled just eight times.
In other area action, Darlington defeated Iowa-Grant 68-25 on Dec. 17.
