Clinton stifles Cheesemakers; Warriors split

CLINTON — Monroe held Clinton to an 0-for-9 mark from behind the three-point line, but the Cougars dominated the Cheesemakers in the pain en route to a 62-39 victory Jan. 31.

Clinton out-scored Monroe 38-18 in the paint and out-rebounded the Cheesemakers 50-37. Clinton also finished with an efficient 20-for-28 (71.4%) mark from the charity stripe. Monroe was just 14 of 29 (48.3%) in freebie opportunities. The game paused for plenty of whistles, as the two teams combined for 42 fouls and 52 turnovers.

Alexis Gertsch led Monroe with 10 points, while Analise Newcomer had seven and Lauryn Quinn and Brinley Roidt each tallied six points. 


Black Hawk 67, Warren 29

WARREN — The visiting Warriors bested the host Warriors in a nonconference border battle Feb. 1. Black Hawk outscored Warren 37-12 in the first half, all but sealing the outcome.

Maddy Lange scored 25 points and had four steals for Black Hawk, while Madelynn Place finished with 16 points and four steals. Mya Milz worked the stat sheet with nine assists, four rebounds and six steals. Warren’s Mayci Mullen led her squad with nine points.

Black Hawk shot 52% from the field, while Warren finished at just 22%. Black Hawk also won the turnover battle 28-16, which included 23 steals, leading to a 30-8 margin in points off turnovers. Black Hawk also won the battle in the paint, 32-8, and from behind the arc — 6/16 (37.5%) to 3/21 (14.3%).


Belmont 67, Black Hawk 46

SOUTH WAYNE — Tenth-ranked Belmont jumped out to a 19-point lead in the first half and never looked back in a Six Rivers crossover matchup Jan. 31. The Warriors had 20 turnovers to the Braves’ 9, and Belmont made seven more three-pointers in just 10 more attempts.

Maddy Lange led Black Hawk with 22 points and seven rebounds. Madelynn Place was just 2-for-14 from the field but went 7-for-8 from the line to finish with 12 points.

Kaci Riechers was one of four Braves in double figures, finishing the night with 28 points to lead all scorers.


Darlington 58, Iowa-Grant 35

LIVINGSTON — The Redbirds jumped out to a 39-17 advantage by the intermission en route to a decisive SWAL victory on Jan. 30.

Sadie Goebel led Darlington in scoring with 16 points, while Lexie Meyers finished with 11. Catie Hartwig and Lylah Norgard each added eight points. Maddie Gratz tallied 11 rebounds and four steals to go with six points.


Belleville 59, Marshall 17

BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats rolled on Jan. 31, routing the visiting Cardinals in a Capitol South game. Belleville out-scored Marshall 34-11 in the first half, and then 25-6 in the second stanza.

Maddi DeSmet finished the night with 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for Belleville, while Addison Edge tallied 10 points and Toria Devoe eight. Devoe, a junior, is averaging 18 ppg this season and is just 60 points shy of joining DeSmet in the 1,000-point club for her career.


New Glarus 40, Cambridge 25

NEW GLARUS — The Knights battled the conference leader on Jan. 31, and in the second half pulled away for the decisive victory.

The teams went into the locker room at halftime knotted up at 12, and New Glarus out-paced the Blue Jays 28-13 in the second half to pull off the upset.

Kate Parman finished with 14 points to lead the Knights. Kalia Malaise and Ellie Brenkman each had eight.


New Glarus 54, Iowa-Grant 29

LIVINGSTON — The Glarner Knights led by just five at halftime, but out-scored the Panthers by 20 in the second half of a nonconference game Feb. 1 to secure a victory.

Kate Parman led the way with 16 points, and Marie Besley finished with 10 points.


Argyle-Pecatonica 63, River Ridge 46

ARGYLE — Avari Steiner scored a career-high 30 points to help AP conquer the Wildcats in a Six Rivers crossover Jan. 31. Steiner scored 17 of her points in the first half as AP built up a 20-point lead.

Kylie Butler finished the night with 12 points and Brooke Wellnitz added 10 and 18 boards for AP. Mandi Wehrle led RR with 17 points on five three-pointers and two free throws.


Shullsburg 87, Juda 25

JUDA — The Miners had five players in double figures in a game that turned into a route very quickly. Ninth-ranked Shullsburg outscored the Panthers 51-17 in the first half alone and triggered the running clock early in the second stanza. 

Hailey Alt had 22 points to lead Shullsburg, while McKinley Russell added 20.


Albany-Monticello 76, Benton 21

ALBANY — The Space Stallions allowed just two Zephyrs to put the ball in the cylinder during their game Jan. 31. Ries Stluka scored 17 of Benton’s 21 points, with Kaitlyn Richardson scoring the other four on a pair of baskets.

AM took a 49-8 lead into halftime. Dalana Trumpy led all scorers with 24 points, including 20 in the frst half. Abby Hollis added 10 points. All 10 players that dressed for the Space Stallions scored in the contest.


Albany-Monticello 69, Juda 19

ALBANY — AM cruised for the second straight night on Feb. 1, handing the Panthers a Six Rivers East loss. The hosts led 38-15 at halftime and held Juda to just four points in the second half despite emptying the bench.

Molly Olson paced the Space Stallions with 18 points. Abby Hollis finished with 13, while Dalana Trumpy and Heidi Olson each tallied nine points.

Makenna Scheidegger led Juda with 11 points, nine of which came in the first half.
