Cheesemakers win 2 of 3 at Madison Quad

The Monroe Cheesemakers won two of their three tennis matches on April 19 at the Madison Memorial Quadrangular. First, the Cheesemakers defeated Plymouth, 5-2. At singles, the Cheesemakers won without senior Matthew Setterstrom in the lineup. In the singles results;

No. 1 — Alex Gerrits of Monroe defeated Bechara El Hajj of Plymouth, 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 — Leandro Papapoulios of Plymouth defeated Hamilton Stites of Monroe, 6-2, 6-2. 

No. 3 — Allen Gerrits of Monroe defeated Isaac Falk of Plymouth, 6-4, 6-3. 

No. 4 — Travis Saunders of Monroe defeated Eli Fabian of Plymouth, 6-2, 6-0. 

In doubles, the Cheesemakers won two of the three matches against Plymouth.

No. 1 — Gianni Frausto and Cavin Baltus of Plymouth defeated Carsen Bartholf and Graysan Bartholf of Monroe, 6-2, 6-0.

No. 2 — Eli Salzwedel and Caleb Figi of Monroe defeated Frank Erdly and Sebastian Vervaeuk of Plymouth, 6-0, 6-1.

No. 3 — Cash McCabe and Tysen Folgate of Monroe defeated Jeremy Worden and Sam Erdly of Plymouth, 6-3, 6-3. 

Next, the Cheesemakers fell to the host school, Madison Memorial in the second round, 5-2. At singles;

No. 1 — David Klaas of Madison Memorial defeated Matthew Setterstrom of Monroe, 6-3, 6-0. 

No. 2 — Owen Bird of Madison Memorial defeated Hamilton Stites of Monroe, 6-3, 6-2. 

No. 3 — Carsen Bartholf of Monroe defeated Jack Braun of Madison Memorial, 6-2, 6-0. 

No. 4 — Owen Phair of Madison Memorial defeated Cash McCabe of Monroe, 6-0, 6-1.

At doubles, the Cheesemakers got a win from senior Eli Salzwedel and sophomore Graysan Bartholf. 

No. 1 — Patrick Yu and Alex Klaas of Madison Memorial defeated Alex Gerrits and Allen Gerrits of Monroe, 6-2, 6-0.  

No. 2 — Jason Li and William Li of Madison Memorial defeated Caleb Figi and Travis Saunders of Monroe 6-1, 6-4.

No. 3 — Eli Salzwedel and Graysan Bartholf of Monroe defeated Jack Ciske and Nilavan Ramachandran of Madison Memorial, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. 

To close out the day, the Cheesemakers swept all seven matches against Madison La Follette to win, 7-0. 

In singles;

No. 1 — Matthew Setterstrom of Monroe defeated Will Andrews of Madison La Follette, 6-1, 6-0.

No. 2 — Alex Gerrits of Monroe defeated Cayden Rooney Barrow of Madison La Follette, 6-0, 6-1.

No. 3 — Allen Gerrits of Monroe defeated Hudson Seifert of Madison La Follette, 6-2, 6-0. 

No. 4 — Cash McCabe of Monroe defeated Joe Mallow of Madison La Follette, 6-1, 7-6 (2). 

The Cheesemakers continued their dominance of the Lancers at doubles:

No. 1 — Carsen Bartholf and Hamilton Stites of Monroe defeated Jack Kallal and Adam Kluesner of Madison La Follette, 6-4, 6-2.

No. 2 — Travis Saunders and Caleb Figi of Monroe defeated Patrick Downey and Joe Rottier of Madison La Follette, 6-4, 6-1.

No. 3 — Eli Salzwedel and Graysan Bartholf of Monroe defeated Malachi Weigel-Sterr and Ben Freeman of Madison La Follette, 6-3, 6-2. 

“We definitely played our best tennis of the season today but need to continue to improve as we get into the heart of our conference season coming up,” Monroe head coach Matt Bordner said. 

The Cheesemakers improved to 5-2 on the season and are at Watertown Luther Prep on April 22.
