Cheesemakers top Edgerton with an all-seniors lineup
Monroe Girls Tennis

MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers finished their conference season with an all-senior varsity lineup that defeated Edgerton 6-1 Sept. 25 on Senior Night.

“I was super proud of all of our seniors,” said Monroe head coach Matt Bordner. “We also had seniors Baileigh Jelle and Avery Visel who played the first JV match tonight, and we also celebrated our two AFS exchange students, Elora and Freja.”

Bordner noted that he was really happy how the seniors battled after a bit of a slow start.

“Mads Josephs played an incredible match at No. 2 singles for us and found a way to get the win. Sophia (Woo) and Mara (Dixon) played rock solid in our singles lineup and looked ready for the moment,” Bordner said. “Sophie Conway plugged in at No. 2 doubles and played well, and Edie Winslow and Jennessa Powers played their first ever varsity match. They fell just short, but fought hard the whole way.”

Monroe (13-3, 5-1) will play in the Rock Valley Conference tournament on Sept. 30 and will be slotted in second place with an opportunity to get a share of the conference title.
