MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers won 4-3 over Delavan-Darien in Rock Valley Conference girls tennis on Sept. 18. It was the third time this season that the Cheesemakers defeated the Comets. Mads Joseph continued her strong season with a big win in the Cheesemakers singles lineup and is now 13-2 on the season. The doubles lineup did the rest of the work, sweeping Delavan-Darien pairings. Alexis Gertsch and Kaya Holverson held on for a super-tiebreaker win to move to 12-2 together on the season.

“Delavan-Darien played extremely well tonight and I give them a lot of credit,” said Cheesemakers coach Matt Bordner.

Monroe’s No. 3 doubles team of Caedyn Blackburn and Elise McKenzie got what proved to be a crucial win defeating Kaiya Logterman and Vivienne Frenz of Delavan-Darien, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).

“Caedyn and Elise did it the hard way, fighting back from being down in both sets, but found a way to stick together to get the win. We actually worked on these scenarios in practice yesterday, so it was nice to see those situations pop up in our matches and to respond positively to the adversity,” added Bordner.

Monroe is now 11-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Rock Valley Conference. The Cheesemakers are at Jefferson on Sept. 23.
