DELAVAN — Monroe continued its unbeaten streak in the Rock Valley, handing the Delavan-Darien Comets a 28-13 loss on Oct. 4. The Cheesemakers have not lost a game to a Rock Valley opponent since leaving the Badger Conference after the 2019 season.
Monroe (5-2, 5-0 RVC) opened the scoring with touchdowns by senior Tony Wolf. In the first quarter, he struck paydirt on a 4-yard rush, and in the second quarter he took a pass from Bryce Roelli 13 yards to the end zone. Monroe led 13-0 at halftime.
The Comets (4-3, 3-2) made it 13-6 in the third quarter with a 3-yard score. Monroe then fumbled the ball just yards from the DD end zone, but the Comets snapped high on the QB for a safety, making it 15-6 Monroe. Later in the third the Comets scored on a 56-yard touchdown pass, bringing the score to 15-13.
Monroe then closed out the game with a pair of fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns — Cam Newcomer from 2-yards out, and Seth Schmidt from 11 yards.
Monroe had 269 rushing yards in the game and 321 total yards. Newcomer led Monroe with 93 yards on 18 carries, and Wolf had 75 yards on eight carries.
Monroe travels to Evansville (6-1, 4-1) in Week 8. A Cheesemaker win would clinch them the RVC title.
Darlington 55, Lodi 10
LODI — The Redbirds turned on the jets against the 2023 WIAA Division 4 state champions in a Week 7 nonconference makeup.
Dante Glendenning had two scores for Darlington, while Calum Crist, Zeke Zuberbuhler, Aiden Dempsey-Strang, Maddox Goebel and Isaac Crist each had rushing touchdowns. Zuberbuhler also connected with Sloan Glendenning for a 74-yard TD pass.
Goebel led the Redbirds with 128 rushing yards and Calum Crist had 113. The Redbirds had 508 rushing yards in the contest.
Darlington (7-1, 5-0 SWAL) faces Cuba City (6-1, 5-0) in Week 8, with the winner guaranteeing itself at least a share of the league title.
Belleville 55, BSMS 32
SHULLSBURG — The Wildcats went up 14-0 after the first period and led 35-20 at halftime in Week 7.
Brennan Keyes was 19-for-30 passing with 184 yards, two touchdowns and two INTs for Belleville. He added 84 yards rushing and two scores. Logan Derke had 122 rushing yards and three scores for the Wildcats, and teammate Ryker Swenson had 61 yards and a score on nine carries. Cayson Helwig and Sam Arndt each had touchdown receptions for Belleville.
The Wildcats (3-5, 3-2) are firmly on the bubble for the postseason and need a win against either Fennimore (3-5, 2-3) or Darlington (7-1, 5-0) in the final two weeks to clinch a spot.
Prairie du Chien 50, Brodhead-Juda 15
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — The Cardinals fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter and struggled against one of the state’s top teams in Week 7.
The Blackhawks (6-1, 5-0 SWC), ranked seventh in Division 5, finished the night with 453 yards of offense — 294 on the ground and 159 through the air.
Gabe Bockhop was 11-for-23 passing for 171 yards, two TDs and an INT. Brodhead-Juda had just four yards rushing on 15 attempts. Grayson Arn had a 79-yard TD catch, and Brody Riese added four grabs for 47 yards and a score for the Cardinals.
Brodhead-Juda (2-5, 2-3) needs wins against Lancaster (5-2, 4-1) and Richland Center (2-5, 1-4) in order to guarantee a spot in the postseason.
Randolph 50, Parkview-Albany 50
RANDOLPH — The Vikings fell behind 24-0 after the first quarter and 40-0 by halftime in Week 7.
The Rockets had 344 rushing yards in the contest and added another 48 through the air on just six passing attempts.
Wisconsin Heights 56, Monticello 20
MAZOMANIE — The Ponies are still searching for their school’s first victory — but did produce their season-best offensive output Oct. 4.
Hunter Grossen had 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Monticello, and Levi Truttman added another 84 plus a score. The Ponies had 198 yards rushing combined, and finished at 203 yards of offense in the game.
