Cheesemakers fall at Sauk 5-2

SAUK CITY — Despite two goals by senior Tysen Folgate, the Monroe Cheesemakers lost to the Sauk Prairie Eagles 5-2 in Badger Conference boys hockey on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

The Eagles scored a goal one minute into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Folgate got his first goal of the game on assists by junior Beau Janecke and sophomore Blake Folgate at 2:18 in the first period to tie the game at 1-1.

The Eagles scored again at 8:08 in the first period to take a 2-1 lead. The score stayed that way until the 9:44 mark in the third period when the Eagles scored again to go up 3-1. Sauk got a power play goal at 14:42 to take a 4-1 lead but Folgate cut the deficit in half just 21 seconds later with his second goal of the game, assisted by senior Brody Kittleson and sophomore Tucker Mallory to make it 4-2.

The Cheesemakers were unable to get anything else going in the third period as the Eagles got a goal in the waning seconds to win 5-2.

Senior Brock Brandli made 42 saves for Monroe. The Cheesemakers were scheduled to play Milton in a Badger Conference game on Thursday, Jan. 8 at the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center in Janesville.
