Cheesemakers edge Juda 59-51

MONROE — The Monroe Cheesemakers scored 30 points in the paint and got 21 points off turnovers to defeat the Juda Panthers 59-51 in nonconference girls basketball on Monday, Feb. 2.

Junior Braylee Friedrich paced the Cheesemakers with 18 points. Sophomores Brynlee Scace and Analise Newcomer each scored 13 points for Monroe.

The Panthers were led in scoring by sophomore Ryleigh Brown with 11 points. Senior Rianna Sullivan and junior Anna Bartels each had 10 points for Juda.

The game was tied 28-28 at halftime, but the Cheese got the edge in second chance points with 17 while the Panthers had 10.

Monroe (7-13, 1-9 Rock Valley-Valley) hosted Delavan-Darien in an RVC-Valley conference game scheduled on Thursday Feb. 5. Juda (4-15, 0-10) traveled to Blanchardville to face Argyle-Pecatonica in a Six Rivers East Conference game on the Panthers’ schedule for Thursday, Feb. 5.


New Glarus 34, Wisconsin Heights 25

MAZOMANIE — In a rather low-scoring game, the New Glarus Glarner Knights knocked off the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards 34-25 in Capitol South conference action on Tuesday Feb. 3.

With the victory, the Knights got back-to-back wins for just the third time this season and reached the .500 mark at 10-10.

Junior Kalia Malaise scored 12 points. Junior Ellie Brenkman had nine points and freshman Ellie Parman contributed six points to lead New Glarus. The Knights took advantage of 26 turnovers committed by the Vanguards

The Glarner Knights (10-10, 4-1) trail Belleville by just one game for first place in the Capitol South. New Glarus is scheduled to play at Waterloo on Saturday, Feb. 7 in a Capitol South Conference game.


Stockton 35, Black Hawk 33, OT

SOUTH WAYNE — The Black Hawk Warriors had their chances in regulation and in overtime, but lost to the Stockton Blackhawks 35-33 in overtime in nonconference girls basketball on Monday, Feb. 2.

The Warriors were down 33-31 when senior Mya Milz got the ball on the right side and put in a layup with three seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 33-33 and send it into overtime. 

There was no scoring in overtime until Stockton went to the free throw line with 10 seconds left and missed two free throws. The Warriors got the rebound and called time out to set up a final shot. But, the Warriors turned it over with five seconds left and fouled the Blackhawks. Stockton made two free throws to win it, 35-33.

Milz led the Warriors with 25 points. The only other scorers for Black Hawk were junior Jaci Kammes with six points and senior Keira Brunner with two points.


Barneveld 79, Black Hawk 25

BARNEVELD — The Barneveld Eagles smothered the Black Hawk Warriors 79-25 in Six Rivers Conference girls basketball on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

The Eagles took command with a 43-13 lead at halftime to send Black Hawk to their eighth straight loss. Senior Mya Milz led the Warriors with 20 points. 

For Barneveld coach Jim Meyers, it was his 734th career win, the most in Wisconsin girls high school basketball history. 

Black Hawk (4-14, 1-10) traveled to face Albany-Monticello in Six Rivers East Conference action on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Elsewhere in girls basketball, Belleville defeated Marshall 58-47 in a Capitol South game on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
