EAST TROY — The Cheesemakers clinched a spot in the WIAA Division 3 postseason with a rousing 54-8 road victory over East Troy in Week 6.
Wisconsin-commit JT Seagreaves finished the game with 135 yards rushing on 10 carries with three touchdowns. He also caught a 14-yard TD pass from George Brukwicki.
East Troy (1-5, 1-3 Rock Valley), also a rushing-heavy team, gained 172 yards on the ground and nearly 200 overall, but the Cheesemakers had little problems with the Trojans defense.
Brukwicki’s pass to Seagreaves came with 4:02 left in the first quarter. Three minutes into the second quarter, Seagreaves scored on an 8-yard run. He added TD carries of 25 and 20 yards later in the period to put Monroe ahead 27-0. Monroe added two more scores in the third quarter, including a 45-yard run by fullback Alex Hernandez, and two more in the fourth, with Lucas Flom capping the scoring on a 28-yard run.
Aiding the Cheesemakers (5-1, 4-0) was Flom’s leg. Monroe has struggled in the extra-point kicking department this season. Getting his chance against East Troy, Flom was 6-for-8.
Up next for Monroe is a home game Oct. 1 against Evansville (3-3, 2-2). Blue Devils QB Chase Maves has thrown for over 1,200 yards and 12 TDs to just three INTs this season. In a Week 1 34-33 thriller over Reedsburg, Maves had 385 passing yards and five TDs with no interceptions, though the next week Brodhead-Juda held him to just 2 of 13 passing for 13 yards with an interception.
The passing game is split into three equal parts: Trevor Bahrs, Kane Howlett, and the rest of the team. Bahrs has 19 catches for 476 yards, while Howlett has 18 catches for 364 yards. Both players have four touchdown catches. The rest of the team has 28 catches for 406 yards and four TDs.
On the ground running back Alex Johnson has 431 yards total this season, good enough for nearly 72 a game. The Blue Devils have been outscored 143-150 this fall, and give up 154.8 yards per game on the ground. That number is about to go up, as the Cheesemakers average well over 300 yards on the ground each Friday. Monroe has also out-gained its opponents 213-58.
Brodhead-Juda 39, River Valley 7
SPRING GREEN — The Cardinals faced the toughest test yet this season, and passed with flying colors. The Week 6 win over River Valley (4-2, 3-1 SWC) not only put Brodhead-Juda (6-0, 4-0) in the drivers’ seat for the league title, but also clinched a berth into the WIAA playoffs.
Gage Boegli capped the night with 222 yards on the 16 carries (13.9 ypc) with two scores for the Cardinals. Blake Matthys and Brady Rosheisen each had two rushing touchdowns as well. The Cardinals gained 374 yards on the ground, averaging 8.0 yards per carry. Cole Hoesly was 3-for-6 for 55 yards with an interception passing.
Up next for Brodhead-Juda is Dodgeville at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at home.
The Dodgers (1-5, 0-4) have struggled this season, getting outscored 179-60. Offensive success has been hard to come by in Dodgeville, which is the opposite of Brodhead-Juda, which has outscored opponents 257-31.
In fact, the Cardinals have dominated teams with their defense as well, allowing less than 650 yards in six games. Opponents have gained 447 yards through the air, with just two TDs to six interceptions. Opponents have also gained just 197 yards rushing on 126 attempts — just 1.6 yards per carry and 32.8 yards per game. The Cardinals, meanwhile, average more than 317 yards per game. Boegli has been the key cog of it all, gaining 829 yards on 67 totes this year, scoring 14 TDs in the process.
Richland Center 42,
New Glarus-Monticello 6
RICHLAND CENTER — The Glarner Knights (1-5, 1-3 SWC) gained over 200 yards of offense but could not keep up with the Hornets (4-2, 3-1) in their Week 6 game Sept. 24.
Nate Brandes had 39 rushing yards and 58 receiving yards on four catches. Max Marty was 13 -for-32 passing for 116 yards and an interception. Cale Weeden was 3-for-10 for 30 yards and tossed a TD pass to Cade Thayer. Weeden also intercepted a ball on defense.
In Week 7, New Glarus-Monticello will host Platteville (1-5, 1-3). Both teams need a win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
The Hillmen have been outscored 232-101 this fall, including 84-21 in the first quarter alone. Platteville has thrown for over 1,000 yards and rushed for another 600 this year. NGM has been outscored 233-93 and also has over 1,000-yards passing, but just under 400 yards rushing.

Black Hawk-Warren 54, Southwestern 0
HAZEL GREEN — The Warriors dominated throughout in Week 6 and moved just one win from clinching a spot in the playoffs.
Black Hawk-Warren (4-2, 3-1 Six Rivers) gained 354 yards on the ground and another 50 through the air with backup QB Dempsey Schliem. Landen Mahoney had 151 yards rushing and three TDs, while Lucas Milz had 144 yards on the ground and two scores. Jovanny Erickson added 49 rushing yards and a score. Milz added 29 yards and another TD as a receiver.
Southwestern exited the game 3-3 overall, and 1-3 in the conference. BHW led 24-0 after the first quarter, as Mahoney and Milz scored on runs of 47 and 50 yards, plus Milz caught a 20-yard TD pass from Schliem. Mahoney and Milz added another TD run each in the second quarter, and the Warriors led 32-0 at halftime. Milz added a 51-yard TD run to open the third quarter and start the running clock.
“Southwestern has a really good passing attack,” Warriors coach Desie Breadon said. “We got a lot of good experience against the pass with a number of younger players. Our defense did a great job shutting down their run game and making them one dimensional. We got a lot of guys in during the game which is continuing to help us as a team. We still had a number of guys out this week, but should be back to full strength next week against Potosi-Cassville.”
Potosi-Cassville (6-0, 4-0) is conference leader and fourth-ranked in Division 7. A Homecoming win for BHW would mean a tie atop the conference, something the Warriors have had a stranglehold on over the past few seasons.
“Potosi is a very good team and we’re going to need to continue to improve and clean up mistakes against them. Next week’s game against Potosi will be a big one and should have a great atmosphere, especially with being homecoming and playing on Saturday afternoon,” Breadon said.
The Chieftains have outscored opponents 266-47 this season. The PC defense has held opponents to under 700 yards of offense in six games, while gaining more than 2,600 yards itself, including over 1,900 yards on the ground. The Warriors have outscored opponents 206-75 collectively this fall, with over 1,600 yards rushing themselves.
Potosi-Cassville QB Levi Groom has completed 52.5% of his passes for 684 yards and 10 TDs with just one INT this year.
Potosi-Cassville 57, Pecatonica-Argyle 0
POTOSI — The Vikings (1-5, 0-4) fell behind 29-0 after the first quarter and 49-0 by halftime.
