Cheesemakers bow out in playoff opener

WAUKESHA — It’s playoff time and the Monroe Cheesemakers’ hockey co-op was hoping to make a good showing in the Division 1 tournament. But, the Waukesha North co-op overpowered the Cheesemakers 7-0 in a Division 1 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, Feb. 17. 

The Waukesha Wings got two goals in the first period, two more goals in the second period, and three goals in the third period. Two goals were scored on the power play.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Cheesemakers, who ended their season 10-15. Senior goalie Brock Brändli made 45 saves for Monroe. The Cheesemakers got 27 shots on goal and went 0-3 on power play opportunities against the Wings.

It was the last game for eight seniors, including Brändli, Brody Goode of Dakota, Ill., Tysen Folgate, Hans Brandt, Brody Kettleson of Dakota, Ill., Brady Stuart, Brody Koehn, and Owen Hicks.
