Cheesemakers Shutout Redbirds To Open Season

The Monroe Cheesemakers had a successful start to their 2025 baseball season by shutting out the Darlington Redbirds 14-0 on April 3. Junior Logan Meier homered and junior Marcus Ott and Ian Berg combined on a two-hit shutout as the Cheesemakers won in five innings at Darlington. Ott struck out seven and walked two in three innings and Berg struck out four in two innings. Meier went 2x3 at the plate with three RBIs. Sophomore Zane Seffrood also went 2x3 and drove in three runs. Monroe racked up 14 hits to go along with 10 walks to score in every inning. Sophomores Dante Glendenning and Zeke Zuberbuhler got the only hits of the game for Darlington. Monroe’s Monday, April 7 nonconference game against Platteville was postponed. 


Darlington Drops Three Baseball Games on Friday and Saturday

The Darlington Redbirds lost their SWAL Conference opener to Mineral Point on Friday, April 4, then lost both games of the Belmont Triangular on Saturday, April 5

The Mineral Point Pointers blitzed Darlington with eight runs in the first inning and the Redbirds never recovered as the Pointers handed Darlington a 12-4 loss to open SWAL Conference play on Fri. April 4. Senior shortstop Maddox Goebel was 3x4 with a run driven in to lead the Redbirds. Sophomore Zeke Zuberbuhler was 2x4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

On Saturday, the Redbirds faced the Belmont Braves, who hosted the Belmont Triangular. The Redbirds were limited to just three hits by Belmont pitchers Chase Reichers and Oliver Havens in a 5-4 loss. Senior Talan Crist, sophomore Calum Crist, and junior Grady O’Brien each had an RBI for the Redbirds. Goebel pitched the first three innings for Darlington, and sophomore Peyton Dempsy pitched the next two innings and took the loss. 

The Redbirds finished the weekend with a 6-3 loss to the Pittsville Panthers in their final game of the Belmont Triangular. The loss dropped the Redbirds to 1-4 on the season. Darlington was scheduled to be at Boscobel on April 8.

Brodhead-Juda Loses To Dakota on Friday, Wins Over Parkview on Saturday

The Brodhead-Juda Cardinals lost their non-conference game against Dakota, 5-2 on April 4, but bounced back with a 14-6 win over Parkview in nonconference baseball on April 5.

In the first game, the Cardinals had a 2-1 lead over the Dakota Indians after one inning. But Dakota scored four runs in the 4th inning to overtake the Cardinals. Leftfielder Brody Riese had a hit and two RBIs for the Cardinals. Junior pitcher Sam Searls was 2x3 with a double and a run scored. Searls took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits. He walked four and struck out four.

In the 14-6 win over Parkview on Saturday, Searls went 3x5 with two RBIs and he scored two runs to lead a 14-hit attack for the Cardinals. 3rd baseman Chase Bauman and shortstop Braylon Strehlow drove in two runs a piece. Strehlow and centerfielder David Masloske each had a double for Brodhead-Juda. The Cardinals (1-2) were scheduled to travel to Whitewater on April 8. 


McFarland 6, Brodhead-Juda 5

The McFarland Spartans scored a run in the bottom of the 7th inning to upend the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals, 6-5 in non-conference baseball in the season opener for both teams on April 3. Senior catcher Gabe Bockhop went 2x4 and drove in two runs for the Cardinals. Leadoff hitter Clayton Elliott was 2x4 and drove in a run while pitching the first three innings for Brodhead-Juda. 3rd baseman Sam Searls drove in a run with a  sacrifice fly in the 5th inning. Elliott gave up five runs on six hits along with five walks and three strikeouts. Parker Vanderpal pitched a scoreless 4th and 5th inning and Brody Riese pitched the 6th and 7th innings before giving up the winning run. The Cardinals (0-1) hosted Dakota on Fri. April 4 before playing three straight road games against Parkview, Dodgeville, and Whitewater on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.


Vikings Walk Off Pointers In Season Opener

The Pecatonica Vikings and Mineral Point Pointers opened their 2025 seasons at Blanchardville with the Vikings getting a 4-3 win as junior Cohlman Schlimgen scored with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning when sophomore Luke Leonard was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Vikings won despite getting just four hits. The Pointers managed just three hits off five Pecatonica pitchers, Andrew Hendrickson, Austin Enloe, Schlimgen, Griffin Noll, and Ashton McNett. Noll got two of the Vikings four hits and scored two runs. Pecatonica’s Monday, April 7 game against River Valley was postponed.


Southwestern Wildcats No-Hits Argyle-Black Hawk

The Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles lost to the Southwestern Wildcats 10-0 in six innings in non-conference baseball onApril 3 on a combined no-hitter by Klaeton Hendricks and Dane Hendricks of Southwestern. It was the season opener for Argyle-Black Hawk. Klaeton Hendricks pitched the first five innings and Dane Hendricks pitched the sixth inning to complete the no-hitter. The only batters to reach base for the Orioles were starting pitcher Mitchell Johnson, who walked twice, 1st baseman Mikey Holfvogt, and 3rd baseman Ole Isely, who each walked once. The Wildcats scored in every inning but the 5th. The Orioles struck out a total of 14 times against Klaeton Hendricks and Dane Hendricks. Argyle-Black Hawk is at home against River Ridge in the Orioles’ Six Rivers Conference opener on Monday Apr. 7.


Monticello-Albany tripped up by Parkview

The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions lost a nonconference tilt with the Parkview Vikings 8-0 on April 3. Parkview pitcher Christian Hobon, a senior, blanked the Space Stallions on four hits. Sophomore Tyler Constantini got two of the hits for the Space Stallions. Monticello-Albany hosted Benton-Shullsburg in Six Rivers conference action on April 7.


New Glarus 9, Clinton 6

A four-run sixth inning proved to be the difference as the New Glarus Glarner Knights held on for a 9-6 win over the Clinton Cougars in non-conference baseball on April 3. New Glarus coach Eric Spanton won in his first game as coach of the Glarner Knights. Senior Patrick Alt started on the mound for New Glarus and did not allow a hit over five innings. Alt struck out eight and walked two before giving way to Landon Stelter for one-third of an inning, and then, sophomore Nolan Julseth, who got the win in relief by going 1 and 2/3 of an inning with three strikeouts. The Glarner Knights got timely hitting from Stelter, who went 2x4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs. Julseth had a base hit that drove in a run, and got another RBI with a sacrifice fly. Junior catcher Ashlin Mihlbauer had two hits in three at-bats and scored two runs for the Glarner Knights. 


New Glarus Picks Up Two Wins In Baseball

The New Glarus Glarner Knights scored eight runs over the first three innings, then tacked on four more runs in the fifth inning to roll past Benton- Shullsburg 17-5 in non-conference baseball on April 4. Sophomore shortstop Nolan Julseth was 3x6 with a pair of RBIs and scored a pair of runs for New Glarus. Catcher Landon Stelter scored two runs and drove in two runs to go with a hit and three walks. Senior Clem Meter-Brooks started on the mound for the Glarner Knights and allowed five runs on three hits in three innings. Brock Roth came on in relief and got the win, allowing no runs on no hits over the final four innings

The Glarner Knights got a four-hit shutout from senior pitcher Andrew Pulvermacher in a 10-0 win in five innings over Monticello-Albany on April 5. Pulvermacher walked two and struck out five in getting the win. Junior centerfielder Ashlin Mihlbauer was 2x4 with two RBIs and a run scored. 3rd baseman Nathan Hendrickson went 2x3 with two RBIs and scored a run. 2nd baseman Landon Stelter got on base three times, scoring twice with two hits, and a walk. The Glarner Knights got nine hits off three pitchers for the Space Stallions. Senior Kaden Zurfluh got two of Monticello-Albany’s four hits. Monticello-Albany fell to 0-2 with the loss.


Belleville Drops Both Games of Doubleheader To Evansville and Dodgeville

The Belleville Wildcats played two games in non-conference baseball on Sat. April 5 and lost both games, 15-5 in five innings to Evansville, and 6-4 in eight innings to Dodgeville. In the first game against Evansville, the Blue Devils grabbed a 9-0 lead in the first two innings, taking advantage of six Belleville errors in the win. For the Wildcats, Austin McKinley was 2x2 with an RBI while shortstop Niles Monroe was 1x2 with two RBIs.

The Wildcats faced Dodgeville in the second game. The Dodgers snapped a 4-4 tie with two runs in the eighth inning to get the win. 2nd baseman Isaac McKinley starred for the Wildcats, going 3x3 with a run scored. 1st baseman James Markhardt was 1x4 and drove in two runs for the Wildcats. With the two losses, Belleville starts the season 0-2. Belleville begins Capitol South Conference action on April 8 against Cambridge at home.
