Season finale, Homecoming game set for April 23

WHITEWATER — The Cheesemakers improved to 4-0 on the season with a 29-7 win over Whitewater April 16.

Monroe was methodical on offense, averaging five yards per carry. Nine different Cheesemakers rushed the ball. Senior Trevor Rodebaugh led the team with 113 yards on 24 carries, including two touchdowns. Senior Tyler Matley added another 81 yards and a score on 12 carries. Sophomore Keatin Sweeney finished the night with 75 yards a TD on 11 touches. Max Golembiewski was 2 of 7 passing for 25 yards with an interception.

The Whippets had just 100 yards of offense, including 77 yards through the air on 10 of 23 passing. The Cheesemakers intercepted two passes.

Rodebaugh scored twice in the first quarter to stake Monroe out to a 14-7 advantage. Brock Grosinske of Whitewater then threw a 35-yard TD pass with one second left on the clock before halftime.

In the second half, Sweeney ran in a score from 10 yards out in the third quarter, and Matley added a 9-yard TD midway through the fourth quarter.

The Cheesemakers have one last game April 23 at home against East Troy. Monroe will be celebrating Homecoming all week in anticipation for the contest.
