Cheese fall to MHB; Parkview-Albany wins first game; BHW topples Westby
Football

MOUNT HOREB — The Cheesemakers dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 26-6 loss at third-ranked Mount Horeb-Barneveld on Aug. 29.

The host Vikings, state semifinalists a year ago, led 8-0 after the first quarter and 14-6 at halftime. Monroe was unable to score in the second half against MHB’s stout defense.

Sophomore Tristen Anderson led the Cheesemakers with 21 carries for 71 yards and two catches for 20 yards. He also scored Monroe’s lone touchdown.

MHB QB Brooks Hendrickson was 14 of 20 passing for 147 yards and a TD, while RB Jack Wilson had 194 yards on 23 carries and a score. Wilson also had eight tackles on defense, plus a sack and a fumble recovery.

Parkview-Albany 32, Pacelli 6

ORFORDVILLE — The Vikings scored a TD and converted the two-point try in all four quarters of their Week 2 victory over Pacelli.

Aiden Crane was 17 of 26 passing for 205 yards and three TDs. He also led the team in rushing with 42 yards. Oliver Friedrich led Parkview-Albany with four catches for 82 yards and a score.

The Vikings had a monster game on offense, collecting 355 total yards, while holding the Cardinals to 210 yards.

Black Hawk-Warren 36, Westby 22

WESTBY — The Warriors jumped out to a 22-8 halftime lead, and scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal the nonconference victory in Week 2.

Beau Podner had 120 yards passing, completing 4 of just 5 attempts. He added 50 yards on the ground and totaled three touchdowns in all. Jacob Woodruff led BHW with 173 rushing yards on 25 carries with two scores. Bryce VanRaalte had three catches for 103 yards and a score for the Warriors.

“Our passing game is starting to get dangerous when we use it and right now it doesn’t look like many people are going to stop Bryce, Jackson is a good possession receiver and Beau is playing well at QB.  We have a couple of other guys that can contribute as well,” BHW coach Desie Breadon said.

BHS out-gained Westby on offense 387-221.

“We knew it was going to be a tougher game for a number of reasons: we were playing a bigger school, we had a long bus ride, and we were missing about four starters,” Breadon said. “Westby is a physical team and likes playing the game like we do and they never quit.  I was really impressed with them on and off the field.”

Waterloo 36, Pecatonica-Argyle 0

WATERLOO — The Vikings played their Week 2 nonconference game a day early and fell by five scores to Waterloo.

The Pirates scored a touchdown in the first two quarters, taking a 12-0 advantage into halftime. Waterloo then scored 22 points in the third quarter, and capped the fourth quarter with a safety.

In all, Waterloo ran 61 of 62 plays on the ground and collected 429 yards rushing, an average of 7.0 yards per carry.

Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah 54, Monticello 14

ELKHART LAKE — The Ponies fell to 0-2 in the young 8-Player football season, falling to the Resorters on the road Aug. 28.

Tanner Hillard was 8-for-18 passing for 104 yards and touchdown for Monticello, connecting with Presley Ladwig (3 rec, 81 yards) for the score. Levi Truttman led the Ponies with 56 yards rushing on 18 carries.
