JEFFERSON — The Cheesemakers outpaced Jefferson by 20 points in the first half of their game Feb. 21 en route to a dominating 73-38 victory.
Monroe shot nearly 57% from the field, hit 22 free throws and seven three-pointers. The Cheesemakers out-rebounded the Eagles 37-23 and had 40 points in the paint compared to Jefferson’s 20.
Marcus Ott paced Monroe with 17 points. Mekhi Brown finished with 13 points, JJ Meyer had 11 and JT Meyer tallied 10 points. Brody Cornfield led the Cheesemakers with eight rebounds, while Kamrin Gerber-Reamer dished out six assists and grabbed five boards.
Monroe (15-7) received the No. 8 seed in the WIAA Division 2 playoffs and will host Jefferson (6-16) on March 4. The winner will move on to play top-seeded and third-ranked Mount Horeb (20-2) on March 7 in a regional semifinal.
Belmont 93, Pecatonica 92, OT
BELMONT — The Vikings took the Braves to the very end in their Six Rivers crossover Feb. 21.
Griffin Noll scored a game-high 45 points to lead Pecatonica (12-10, 9-9 Six Rivers East). He added six rebounds and six assists. Martin Anderson finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals, Charles Anderson tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Cohlman Schlimgen added nine points and five boards.
Five Braves scored in all, but all five finished in double figures. Tanner Simmons led the way with 35 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Thomas Freeman added 18 points and 12 rebounds, Logan Kress finished with 15 points, nine boards and six assists, and Wyatt Temperly tallied 13 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
Both teams shot 46% from the field. Belmont (11-12, 10-8 Six Rivers West) had 11 three-pointers to Pecatonica’s seven, though the Vikings had a slightly better shooting percentage (31.8% to 28.9%) from downtown. Both teams targeted shots from the outside and in the paint and finished just one rebound apart (Pecatonica 48, Belmont 47).
The game was tied 36-36 at halftime and then again at 84-84 at the end of regulation.
Cambridge 58, Belleville 43
BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats couldn’t keep up with the Capitol South-leading Blue Jays on Feb. 20. Jackson Scholey had 15 points, Bryce Babler 11 and Adam Cann nine for Belleville (7-15, 3-6), which will host Westby (6-16) in the D4 playoffs, with the winner going to Darlington (17-5).
New Glarus 71, Waterloo 33
NEW GLARUS — The Knights stormed the castle in the second half, pulling away from the Pirates 36-8 over the final 18 minutes of their game Feb. 21. New Glarus improved to 11-11 overall and 5-4 in the Capitol South, while Waterloo drops to 1-20 overall and 0-8 in league play.
Clayton Streiff and Nolan Julseth each had 14 points to lead New Glarus, while Breckyn Thompson added nine points.
The Knights have a first-round bye in the D3 playoffs and will face the winner of 5-seed River Valley (12-11) and 12-seed Prairie du Chien (0-23).
Potosi 65, Monticello 22
POTOSI — The Ponies (7-16, 4-14) were outscored by more than four touchdowns each half in a Six Rivers crossover Feb. 21.
Monticello shot just 21.4% from the field on 42 attempts — including an 0-for-13 effort from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Potosi shot 52.7% from field and hit three three-pointers.
The Chieftains (20-3, 17-1 SRW) won virtually every category, finishing with more transition points (25-2), points off turnovers (18-4), second chance points (10-2, points in the paint (38-12), rebounds (41-21), assists (18-3), steals (9-6), blocks (8-0) and won the turnover battle (11-18). Derek Schwartzlow led Monticello with six points.
The Ponies will play at Pecatonica in the opening round of the D5 playoffs March 4, with the winner advancing to face either Madison Country Day (2-16) or Madison Abundant Life (17-5) on March 7.
River Ridge 63, Albany 19
PATCH GROVE — The Comets shot just 24% from the field, giving up double that amount to River Ridge (21-2, 16-2 SRW) in a Six Rivers crossover Feb. 21. Ty Durtschi led Albany (10-13, 7-11 SRE) with eight points.
Albany hosts Shullsburg (9-14, 6-12 SRW) in the first round of the D5 playoffs March 4, and the winner will likely take on top-seeded Southwestern (18-5) on March 7.
Edgerton 85, Brodhead 47
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals fell hard to one of the state’s top teams on Feb. 21.
Brody Riese led the way for Brodhead with 14 points, while Gabe Bockhop had 13, Brooks Malkow 13 and Sam Searls seven. The Cardinals turned the ball over 20 time.
Brodhead (10-13) host Viroqua (6-16) in the first round of the D3 playoffs March 4. With a win, the Cardinals would go to Wisconsin Dells (18-5) three days later.
